Draining a soggy garden

Wonder if any green fingered people know the answer to this. I have clay soil so the garden is very soggy. I've had a gardener round who said to dig up the hard, but sharp sand and drainage ditches. Cost is £2k.
Garden is around 80ft. Does this quote sound right?

Thanks

Wow that’s a lot of money to spend on drainage! Is it that wet all year round or just in the winter? Our last garden was in clay and was very wet in the winter - I just tried to stay off it as much as possible then so we didn’t compact the soil further. Of course the good news about soil is that roses LOVE IT. I’ve never grown such amazing roses!

I have heard that using a long drill bit (2ft?) to drill lots of irrigation holes in the lawn can work quite effectively. We plan to try this in our clay garden. May be worth a try for the cost of the drill bit before spending £2k. Obviously make sure you know what’s underneath the grass first!
