Noisy triple glazed windows

We recently had UPVC triple glazed sash windows installed to the front of our house. Main reason for getting triple glazed was perceived noise reduction qualities as we live on a very busy road.

However, when in the first floor bedroom I can hear birdsong and a passer by singing (can clearly hear every word) in the street below. To say that I am disappointed is an understatement. I didn't expect the windows to get rid of the car noise entirely but definitely didn't expect to hear noises such as these!

I specifically asked the window contractor for the best noise reducing option and this was their suggestion. Has anyone else had any experience of this?

Thanks.

In case it helps, we have triple glazing as we live on an a road, it helped loads but we got one with two layers of 4mm glass and one 6mm, and the gaps vary slightly between 16-18mm, this stops the different frequencies better.
The side kitchen window we just got standard equal triple glazing and it seems to amplify certain frequencies, but at the front we can sleep etc fine.
We did have to pay a lot of attention to detailing around the edges though, should be plenty of expanding foam, silicone and ideally decent plasterboard sealed properly around the inside.
The old windows had tiny gaps you could even see thought in places, and you could hear voices through them.
I would agree get the company back, if you still have no joy look at your home insurance for legal cover.

Johnd2, I think this could be the problem. The sound is amplified because the gaps between the panes of glass are very narrow. Hard to say exactly, but would say about 5mm. Looking at other standard double glazing in my house, it looks like the gap between the two panes is at least 1cm. Also, I think that all three panes are the same thickness not that thick anyway...
