MVHR. Yes or no?

We’re about to start a big renovation project. Thinking about putting MVHR (mechanical ventilation with heat recovery) in. It’s pretty costly and it’s not clear what the benefits are (other than cleaner air, and presumably some energy savings, but I think those will be rather minimal).

I’d like to hear from anyone who has MVHR and would like to share their experiences. Many thanks 🙏

Be interested to know if you decided to go ahead with it & what you think. We're in a similar position & don't know if it's worth the outlay

Well...surely a better ventilated space will prevent damp
That for me is the bigest benefit - everything else are welcome extras

In not the OP but we have it but I got it cheap on eBay and fitted myself. It's great for getting rid of condensation and mould on the walls and the air is always fresher, but there are no cold draughts. It does cost a small amount to run 24/7 but for a few hundred I thought it's worth a go.

Thanks for commenting.
Yes better ventilation will definitely improve matters but if I'm spending money I want to know I'm spending it on the right type of system. Also I need to know about any possible issues such as dust & mould in the actual ducts, ongoing maintenance & servicing costs.
We're no diyers so it'll have to be installed by someone else

We've got one and also has a boost function so doubles as an extractor in our kitchen. No damp or mould.

One fan broke after 3 years but I managed to replace it myself pretty easily.

Only issue I've found is there are very few professional installers around so makes servicing challenging.

I'm in exactly the same position. We have an ASHP & solar so are interested in whether MVHR is worth it. There seem like some economic benefits, some environmental benefits and other more vague benefits about health and supporting building integrity. Is it really worth it though? If we don't do it we'd probably be able to afford A/C instead (obviously with no running costs because of solar).
