Want to create a big kitchen diner but torn between knocking conservatory down or brick build the conservatory or knock through to current dining area (which is dead space)

I think it depends on budget. If you want a cheaper option, I'd have thought the knocking through would be a lot cheaper.

We have a similar issue. Our conservatory is attached to out living room in a sort of L shape. The inside corner of the L is dead space; a patio area in the garden. We had quotes to knock it all down and rebuild so the living room was one big rectangle, but it was ££££. We are hoping not to be in this house much longer, so we went with putting a roof on our conservatory for now at a fraction of the price. So far, so good. It certainly keeps some of the glaring sunlight out, which was needed and also keeps some of the heat in in winter.

Thanks, the replacement roof quote has come in at 9k, plus a knock through, new kitchen and kitchen fitting, so prob about 25k in total. I will try and attach a plan so you can see the current lay out.

We had the knock through - so the kitchen was off the conservatory with no doors and the dining room with no doors. If that's what you mean. Just think about heating if you are.

We are having it knocked down at the moment and replaced with a proper brick built extension. The conservatory made the house really cold....and the noise from the rain on the roof was deafening.

It's going to be ££s to do the extension but we'll get more space and more useable space.

We knocked down the conservatory and built a garden room instead and opened our kitchen into another room which became the dinning room. Means we use all the rooms instead of having a dining room we never went onto and a conservatory which was unusable 6 months of the year.

Thank you, I wish I knew how to post a pic! Am thinking knock through to the dining area as we will still have that issue if we spent 25/30k on replacing roof on conservatory. Just means kitchen would be at the front of the house.

Because you've put this in style & beauty (not a dig, honest) I was convinced that this was going to be an unusual way of referring to cosmetic treatments and the like - so a solid roof might be a hair transplant....

I clearly need more coffee Grin

Oh! Didn’t realise I had, how do I change?
