Flooring for a kitchen

We're doing a kitchen extension. Space will be roughly 8mx 5.5.

We were planning on having underfloor heating and then ceramic tiles - wood effect herring bone. However, having had our bathroom done in Karndean, we're considering that - it's warmer than tiles but seemingly as durable and washable and it would negate the need for underfloor heating (which has driven the price of the build up considerably).

Anyone care to comment? And can anyone recommend an alternative to Karedean - amtico seems a bit cheaper, but are there any others?

I was very much a tile fan (although I don’t get wood effect tiles as I like tiles to look like tiles) until we moved here 3 years ago. Whole downstairs except living room and study are karndean. We’re replacing it as we had a leak and actually at 18 years old it could do with replacing and we’d like a lighter shade. We’re going for karndean again. I only wish you could steam wash it but otherwise it’s fab.

You can't steam mop it? I have been doing to my bathroom!

I've had Polyflor Camero in my hall & downstairs about 12 years ago and when I redid the kitchen about 15 months ago I had the same put through the kitchen, conservatory and utility.

I've been steam mopping the hall (and now kitchen etc) for years with no problems.
I had ceramic tiles in the kitchen etc before and the LVT is so much warmer.

My fitter said there is no real difference to Karndean, other than than price.

You aren’t supposed to steam mop Karndean because it can cause it to lift. It’s great stuff though as long as it doesn’t get very wet, we had a slow leak in the downstairs toilet which totally ruined the Karndean in there.
I’m contemplating what to have in my kitchen (I hate our bloody travertine tiles Angry). I like the pictures of squirrel’s flooring.

we've got karndean tiles with UFH and love it. as I recollect it Amtico was actually more expensive. if you're saving by not having UFH I'd try and spend it on karndean, it can look great.

I like karndean as it's warm underfoot and not slippery and looks good even after nearly 15 years

Oh, I have underfloor heating (electric) I the conservatory and my floor fitter used a high heat latex to lay it so that the heat (and the extra heat from being in a conservatory) wouldn't cause any issues.
Underfloor heating no longer works (and hadn't used for year anyway), but the option is there re the fitting.

Also, we have laminate in the dining room from before we moved in. The dogs don't like it at all but are fine on the LVT.

Hi. I have recently had LVT put down throughout downstairs and in the bathrooms. We went with Brampton Chase as I think they're slightly cheaper than Amtico and Karndean. I got some samples for free from their website which were sent very quickly.
