How (if I can) can I get paint off of a wall?

I have been stripping wallpaper and some of the paint is chipping and peeling off, and some big chunks have come off near the skirting boards - can I strip back the paint to plaster at all? I am worried if I paint over, it's going to keep chipping plus it'll look horrible.

You can, its not nice but you can.

You need a sanding pad or better a ramdon orbit sander and off you go. Just remember to keep moving as you will damage the wall if you don't.

Just as a point if you use a very fine sanding paper you can probably get away with sanding the areas that have chipped and not the whole wall.

It will be VERY dusty. But I can be done. It may be worth getting a quote from a plasterer to skim the wall.

I tried a sander before but it's silk paint and for some reason it just isn't getting it off. It goes almost gooey aswell, like elasticy and wrecks the sheets. I was wondering if you could use that Vortex (?) or something paint stripper on walls. We are having one of the walls plastered, so will probably end up having them all done, I didn't realise they were so awful!

If you're having one wall replastered anyway it's probably worth having the whole room done.

Here eco friendly paint stripper.

Ooo, that looks good.

Well, i'd have to strip the paint back anyway to plaster - or do you mean when you see them pulling down big sheets of wood on DIY programmes? I think on the wall we are doing they plastered ontop of paint and it's all falling off - only the wallpaper was holding it on!

The plasterer should be able to tell you what you need to do.

Yeah, maybe I'll get him round here tonight, he came last week but I wasn't really listening

It is very normal when you remove old wall paper to find that it was holding up the plaster!

It is normal to have to replaster the wall and I would alwasy recommend that if you are having 1 wall done have the whole room done.
