Cleaning coir matting

In my front porch I have coir matting fitted down instead of carpet. It's been great but is a bit grubby in the main tread area. Anyone have any advice on how to clean it without damaging it ?

Most of the advice i've found online is for coir mats that you can take up and beat out the dirt but I can't do that with this.

No not a well, it's the whole internal lobby - so about 6ft by 4ft! When I had the carpets fitted when I first bought the house the guy who came to measure up suggested it instead of carpet as it was such a small space. So it's more like a fitted carpet iyswim.

It's been great for keeping the carpets clean inside, but now I'm coming to sell (hence my username) and just wanted to give it a quick clean up. It probably will get replaced by anyone buying anyway but first impressions and all that!

It should still just lift out although you may find it heavy. I've fitted a number of these over the years, and they've never needed to be fixed down due to the weight. The most they've ever had is a threshold bar fitted where it meets the neighbouring flooring/floor covering, and the odd bit of Duck Tape if joining a couple of pieces. Once out, you can beat it to your heart's content!

Ours is stuck down (another fun surprise from Carpetright) but I found the lint remover wire scrapers (usually seen used for pet fur removal) work quite well, along with hoovering with the small nozzle (but that takes ages)

I lift mine up, drape it over the fence rail, and hose it. Most of the dirt and grit washes away. Then I leave it to drain, and dry in the sun.
