Replacing linked smoke alarms.

Honestly don’t know why I’m finding this so hard to get my head around but here goes.

Our house was built 2012. The smoke alarms need replacing in 2022 & one is broken.

It has main powered, battery back up smoke alarms that are linked. The wiring block is in the ceiling so I have the theory we can just buy 4 linkable smoke alarms and wire them into the wiring in the ceiling but dh thinks we need to buy the EXACT same smoke alarm.

Any thoughts?.

With mine you can use a tool to slide the top section off and then you get one of the same brand and slide it onto the existing wired portion.

One of ours broke. I just replaced the one with the same make and model. Took seconds to put it up. It just slid into the cradle on the ceiling

The only problem with replacing just one is that they all need to be replaced in 12 months so I might as well do them all a year early.

I would use the same again if it wasn’t for the way they go orange. My smoke alarms look like we are both chain smokers who never open a window except the one in the north facing hall that still looks like new.

So I wanted ones that don’t look so awful.

Right I’ve figured out you need to stay off screwfix and go to wickes so I’m picking up 4 new alarms later plus a carbon monoxide monitor.

£60 all in.
