Light blue grey and light green grey toned paints

I am choosing paints for our living room and dining room which are separated by double doors so they need to be the same colour or complementary colours.

Upstairs is in F&B Joa's White.

For downstairs I want something cooler, maybe grey, maybe blue-grey or green-grey. The rooms are good sizes but not massive so it needs to not be too dark as to close the space off.

I am thinking an off white / light grey in the living room and a green-grey in the dining room or maybe one wall in a green/blue - do people still paint one wall a different colour? Not a full on accent wall in a massively different colour but just a subtly darker or stronger colour.

I'm looking at ordered F&B samples but happy to for dulux if the colours look inviting.

As in not a bright blue or green but a grey with a touch of blue or grey or a pale green. I think I'd like green more than blue...

Mizzle and Parma grey

ElderMillennial · 19/03/2021 06:43

Mizzle is on my list

I will look at Parma grey

It's helpful F&B tell you about colours that work together

We’ve used English Manor from Crown Period collection. It’s a beautiful flat Matt and goes on really well.

Veuvestar · 19/03/2021 09:58

They’ve both got grey tones but they might look a bit too pastel together

We've got f&b Cornforth White in our hall - it has a blue/grey tone to it and makes our North facing hall feel very fresh and light.

And we have Skylight (again f&b) in our South facing kitchen. It can look blue/grey or green/grey depending on the angle of the sun.

ElderMillennial · 19/03/2021 10:57

Lovely bathroom @Veuvestar!

What colour is that on the walls?

Skylight sample is in my bag. Will look at Cornforth white. I'm tempted by a white / odd white and then more blue / green colour

The samples I have in my basket are:

Mizzle
Skylight
Blackened
Cromarty
Strong White
Light blue
Ammonite

We have Joas White upstairs including on the landing so I somehow need to transition from that to the cooler colours I want downstairs

So maybe something v neutral in the hall too

I'm all for F&B but this is a lovely colour (18B17), it's a BS4800 colour so you can get it in any finish, in Dulux Trade it's "Heron". Pale grey with a blue-green cast depending on the light. It looks lighter and cleaner on the wall.

CaramelWaferAndTea · 19/03/2021 12:03

Old white is lovely and greenish

Borrowed light blueish

PresentingPercy · 19/03/2021 12:06

Ammonite can be a bit mauvy in some lights.

We have used Cornforth White and I am still a huge fan of Elephant's Breath. So many colouyrs go with it. I have used Mizzle in a bathroom and it is quite a cool colour. A good grey toned off white is Wevet.

ElderMillennial · 19/03/2021 12:13

Heron looks good

I will check out

Borrowed and Old White

Ammonite may come off my list in that case

I had a tested for Elephants Breath when we painted upstairs and I found it very dark and grey, darker than I expected, but I know many people love it

That’s the Mizzle on my bathroom walls, sorry should have said

ElderMillennial · 19/03/2021 12:46

It looks great @Veuvestar

Pearl Colour from Little Greene Paint is a nice light grey/green as well.

PresentingPercy · 19/03/2021 16:35

Elephants Breath isn’t a light reflecting grey. It has warm tones. I’ve used it with taupe, pale blue, coral, chartreuse, pale yellow and all shades of white! It’s versatile. In a well lit room it’s great.

SollaSollew · 19/03/2021 17:53

For a transition colour in your hallway you could try Shaded White or the very slightly lighter Shadow white. I have it in my kitchen and it looks grey sometimes but more beige at others depending on what it's next to and the time of day.

I have just put slipper satin in my kitchen and it is surprising how it has beautiful green undertones in the light. Highly recommend

Having tried a few samples we are leaning towards F&B skylight, though we might get the colour mixed with Valspar at B&Q. It is more blue / grey and less green...

I also liked mizzle and Dulux tranquil dawn but they seemed too green on the wall

I think I looked at every single greeny-bluey-grey out there during our house redo.

Getting two that are slightly different but go together is very tricky. If you want to do this then your best bet is to go for one of the Little Greene or Paint & Paper Library colours that come in several “depths”. So eg Pearl Colour Mid and Pearl Colour Deep, or Bone China Pale and Bone China Mid from Little Greene. Or the Porcelain, Steel or Lead ranges from Paint & Paper.

SerialRelocator · 27/05/2021 06:48

My house is mostly French grey pale by Little Greene. I love it. It has green undertones but possibly too warm for you. It's also available in mid and darker tones.
As an aside, Little Greene is also the only paint I've found that makes decorating almost pleasurable. Lovely application.
