Paying for a snagging survey?

I have just recently bought a new build property and was wondering is it worth paying £300 for a snagging survey. I never even thought it was a thing until I saw on Instagram that Gemma Atkinson had had her home “snagged” and they had picked up hundreds of issues that would turn out to be bigger problems in future. Anyhow was just wondering if anyone had had one and is it worth it?

Yes we did, took off the pressure of having to look around the house really carefully for the first 48 hours as some cosmetic snags need to be picked up that quickly. He wrote a report with 60 snags, I didn't notice most of them, we submitted to the developer and they just sent workmen around with lists ticking them off over a 2 weeks period.

I justified it as we didn't have to pay for any other kind of survey.

Yes I'd never thought of it that way. Suppose £300 I the great scheme of thing is nothing and like you say not having to pay for a survey anyway. I'm looking at this company www.mysnagsure.com same as Gemma had Smilebeen following them for a while on instagram, it's unbelievable some of the things they pick up on. I'm a bit scared they'll find all sorts up with mine, but I suppose best to find them now than to cause issues further down the road. Thanks

£300 sounds expensive. I think if you take your time and go through methodically then you will pick up 90% of snags. Plus our developers will come out anytime within the first 2 weeks to discuss stuff.and then further assessments as well as the new home guarantee.

Maybe, but that was the last thing I wanted to do after moving! I would say more than half were ones I just wouldn't have picked up (particularly outdoor ones). It was worth its weight in gold although we did pay less, I think we paid less than £200, they can go up to £1000 depending on the type of survey.

We're doing snagging before we move in, so have a dedicated appointment with the developer while the house is still completely empty

Ah that helps, we weren't able to go in before but managed to get the snagger in between key pick up and removals! I didn't really know what I was looking for, didn't care to find out either tbh ha!

I'm buying a new build, and this is the first thing anyone who's previously bought a new build says to me. Definitely get a professional snag completed. £300 is peanuts compared to the cost of the house, particularly as any defects will be an increasing hassle to sort out after the developers are off site.
