New houses - when do they start needing stuff

If you have a new house when do you think you'll start re-doing stuff, like kitchens, bathrooms etc?

You'll be good for at least 10 years

My house is 6.5 yrs old and I've just replaced the en suite and cloakroom loo. That's due to the loos not working and having hidden cisterns which made replacing them without damaging tiling impossible.

Our last home was a (second hand) new build, it was 12 years old when we sold and it was in that last year that appliances were starting to play up, carpets looking worn, noticed neighbours were starting to do kitchens, bathrooms etc, mostly for cosmetic reasons though I think, ours was still in good condition but was starting to look dated.

Depending what developer you've bought the house from... 18 months is when things go downhill 🙈

In all seriousness though... Kitchen/bathroom should get 15 years out of. Boiler if on a new build likely 10 years if you're lucky unless they've put a decent brand in.

We sold our 20 year old 'new build' 3 years ago - we had re-done the kitchen (that was more due to taste) and the ensuite. Had we stayed the bathroom would have been next. Same boiler, same windows and doors.

Our house was 18 years old when we replaced the kitchen and ensuite. Main bathroom and downstairs loo still original, look fine and work perfectly. We changed the boiler when we did the kitchen as we moved it and so got a smaller boiler, the old boiler was working fine. The old kitchen was just looking a bit tired but not not falling apart and everything worked.

Thanks been good to get peoples thoughts. Our house is 10 and I'm trying to budget for when we'll need to start replacing and upgrading things.

Our house is twenty years old. We bought it in 2019 and in the previous few years prior to our purchase the owners replaced the kitchen, both bathrooms and downstairs cloakroom, windows, doors and boiler. Sadly they didn't do the radiators and inexplicably left a 'blown' patio door. These are on our to do list.

We bought new 8 years ago and kitchen and bathrooms still in great condition. Kitchen isn’t exactly “fashionable” anymore, but it’s in perfect working order. The only thing we would think about changing soon would be carpets/ vinyl flooring.
