Frosted Glass for a bathroom- design and style help.

Our downstairs bathroom window has a white UPV double glazed window. The glass is misted and has obvious drips of condensation inside the glass so we can have new glass as the frame is ok.

This gives us the opportunity to change the pattern inside. It currently has a flower design which I don't particularly like but is ok. The problem is the window is near our door and anyone coming to the house has to walk in front of this window and the current frosting isn't that frosty!
Any suggestions for a glass pattern that will let light in but not allow people to see outlines of people on the loo?
I've Googled without much luck and of course without seeing a load of physical examples it's hard to judge how much can be seen.

Seriously considering net curtains instead!

I hate frosted glass! No matter what people say or think you CAN see through it even especially if you have a light on in the room.

I'd sooner have clear glass and a decent blind.

I'm wondering the same but it's right by the door so anyone can look in.
I was thinking about ambulance style windows so we can look out but no one can see in. DH didn't like that idea.

We've just got completely plain frosted glass in our bathroom. It's a bungalow and looks out over the garden, we have no privacy issues with this and still lets light through.

I think I'd go for a plain frosting and stick a plant on the windowsill to break up the "view"

AdaThorne · 16/03/2021 10:33

Honestly I feel your pain. We've just ordered new windows for our house and were told by the company that we could choose any Pilkington frosted glass.

We didn't really think we had any opinions on frosted glass options but when we looked everything was either weird plant/floral/leaf type designs or what can only really be described as 1970s lace table cloth.

We ended up choosing Minster but are half expecting we'll have to buy nets too!

We have Mayflower.
Looking at Cotswold. Supposedly more obscure.
Don't really like any.
I wouldn't care so much if we weren't on display on the loo!

Can you not get a plain frosted/etched glass?

Darkingbog · 16/03/2021 17:51

I think the plainish/slightly stippled ones or etched glass look best. You can always put a layer of window frosting film over to help it out.

Our builder chose when we needed to do this. I didn't really know the options at the time but just said no leaves or flowery stuff. He went for a sandblasted option - looks fine. So I'd got for that or a simple etched glass.

PragmaticWench · 16/03/2021 20:17

We chose plain frosted as the patterns were all just foul. Very 70s tablecloth as a pp said!

You can get different levels of obscurity with the plain frosted glass, as our planning permission specified a particular level for some windows.

Plants on the window sill are also a good idea.

You need to ask for etched glass rather than textured glass. Google Pilkington Optifloat Opal which is plain etched and very opaque.
Bet it will be more expensive though, but if it's a small window hopefully not too bad.

I just came on to post a question about windows for the bathroom and found this! The pilkington ones which we’ve been given to select from all seem so dated!

Is the frosted glass more expensive does anyone know?
