Removing water tank and installing boiler

Hi, we're looking at buying a house that has a water tank and no boiler and looking to remove the tank and install a combi boiler. Does any know roughly how much this will cost including cost of boiler please? I'm in the South West and I know prices will vary but just a general idea. TIA

Where is the tank - the loft? Will you decommission and leave in place or get it removed? Where will the boiler go?

@idontlikealdi the boiler is in a cupboard in the main bedroom so we would like to get it completely removed and the new boiler would go in the kitchen

Depending on how old the current system is, you may need a new water pipe from the mains to the property. In old sizes, I believe it has to go from a 1/2" to a 3/4".

We did this, water tank was in the loft with a floor standing boiler with chimney. We replaced it with a combi, new radiators in most rooms and put the new boiler in a new spot. It was around 5k south east.

When you say "water tank" I think you mean "hot water cylinder".

What colour is it?

Probably it is heated with an electric immersion heater, which is very expensive to run. Occasionally with a coal or wood stove or backboiler.

But very often, in an older person's house, with a baxi gas boiler concealed behind a gas fire in a fireplace.

Electricity is so much more expensive than gas, that a house with only an immersion heater might not have a gas supply.

I was about to say you need piglet john, but I see he is already here.

There are too many variables to say how much it will cost.

If there is no boiler currently, what is heating the house/water?

We had a hot water cylinder from the box room removed and 3 water tanks from the attic taken out, new rads in every room (including 2 fancy ones), a new combi boiler in a different location to the old boiler and electric shower switched for one running off new boiler end of last year. Cost approx 6k in total.

We put in a megaflo, so a big hot water cylinder. It was a big house and we’d had issues in a previous house with a combi meaning the showers ran cold if anyone filled the kettle.

What size is the house is useful to know.

We've done this recently, small 4 bed with two bathroom (11 radiators across the house). Quotes varied from £2.5-£3.3k (depending on boiler brand and how long a warranty we wanted) but we were lucky as the existing boiler could be swapped out in the same spot so limited moving of pipes etc. Would be more if you need to move the location of the boiler, but the plumber said ours was next to the water feeds already.

(Our hot water cylinder was in a cupboard over the stairs and cold water tank in loft so both were also removed)
