How much did your Howdens Fairford kitchen cost?

Sorbustree123 · 14/03/2021 09:21

I'm trying to work out if our quote is reasonable or not, as I've read a lot about quotes from Howdens varying wildly. If anyone has a recent quote that they would be willing to share, I'd be grateful for a comparison. Huge thanks in advance!

We had a quote from them for £22k, of which £9k was fairford cupboards. We ordered through DIY Kitchens where 22mm mdf doors (Howdens are 19mm) cost us just under £6k.

youngestisapsycho · 15/03/2021 19:56

Is the quote thru a builder or direct from Howdens

Chuckaluck · 15/03/2021 20:39

I have a current quote for a Fairfield kitchen for just over £6k. Please share what yours is! I thought that was pretty good and so did my builder!

Downthefarm · 15/03/2021 20:49

Wow-22k! I updated my utility room cupboard doors with Howdens shaker fairford-6 walls units and 2 base unit and a plinth for around £300 plus £50 to a fitter.

You can't get pricing directly from Howdens, only through a builder/fitter.

Sorbustree123 · 15/03/2021 21:31

Thanks for all your answers. Our quote is £5,500 (inc.VAT) for five extra height wall units, an extractor wall unit, and nine base units (a mix of drawers, cupboards, fridge/freezer, corner unit, etc) and two 600mm doors for integrated appliances, plus the necessary plinths, pelmets, etc., 9m of 40mm solid wood worktop and a stainless steel 60mm sink. When I type it all out, it seems a bit better value, but I did a comparison with DIY Kitchens, and worked out they would be around £3,750 (inc.VAT) for more or less the same. We're awaiting quotes from kitchen fitters.

Different builders get different prices at Howdens

winemakestheworldgoround · 15/03/2021 22:12

@Sorbustree123 That was our situation - we were told by Howdens that if I priced it up at DIY Kitchens and printed it off then they'd price match. By the time I'd priced it all up including the plinths, pelmets, end panels etc, and I could see a £3k saving, why would I have then gone to Howdens? I clicked order instead.

Whaa · 15/03/2021 22:28

Don’t use howdens! Utter crap, over priced and make the price up.

Sorbustree123 · 15/03/2021 22:43

Thanks @winemakestheworldgoround I would be very tempted to do the same if it wasn't for the current six week plus lead time for DIY Kitchens. That said, we could probably get by with a makeshift kitchen for a little while longer. Which DIY Kitchen did you go for in the end?

OP posts:
winemakestheworldgoround · 16/03/2021 12:39

@Sorbustree123 We went for the Clayton Painted - 22mm mdf shaker style. Even the solid timber options were cheaper than our Howdens quote.

It's not just the units - they wanted £800 for a kettle tap and I can get one myself for £400, the worktop they quoted at £4K and I've got a local quote at less than £3k. Even the Belfast sink is half price elsewhere!

TheJunctionBaby · 16/03/2021 14:01

I was quoted over 14k for a fairford kitchen from Howdens including quartz counters with upstands and some appliances. We are going instead for IKEA Lerhyttan which has come out at approx 8k including quartz counters with upstands, and a massive built in bench seating with storage drawers (which wasn't included in Howdens quote) but without appliances.

Our kitchen dining area will have a large island, as well as a wall of floor to ceiling cupboards in addition to an L shaped kitchen that is mostly drawers, that's why even our IKEA quote is higher than I usually see people saying theirs cost them.

Needless to say, we are going with IKEA. The Lerhyttan are partially made of solid wood, and even with the cost of spray painting them the F&B colour I want, it still all works out cheaper by far

Muststopeating · 16/03/2021 16:03

@TheJunctionBaby can you tell me more about who is spray painting them? I am planning to buy an Ikea kitchen because the extra space you get when you lose the void and a smaller plinth is significant. Plus the price. I had, however, been looking at bespoke doors because as much as I like the lerhyttan, I don't think grey or black would work in our scheme. But our budget (doing a significant extension/refurb) is stretched to breaking so wondering if spray painting might save some money. For context the bespoke doors add about £4k to the price (they are £6k vs Ikea doors of £2k although that wasn't lerhyttan which would be a bit more).

Hollydollydoiley · 16/03/2021 16:04

5k in Fairford navy.

Sorbustree123 · 16/03/2021 16:50

Thanks @Hollydollydoiley is there any chance you'd be happy to share a copy of your invoice, assuming you ordered relatively recently? Absolutely no worries if not possible. Thanks!

Hollydollydoiley · 16/03/2021 16:54

Ah I don't have it anymore sorry! Roughly I had 6 tall wall units, wood effect worktops, ceramic sink, wine rack and floor standing units, plus all the plinths etc, an extractor fan and a neff hob.

Hollydollydoiley · 16/03/2021 16:55

Oh and drawer unit with internal cutlery drawer.

@Muststopeating this is the company www.kitchenfaceliftcompany.co.uk/locations.html though they aren't working in my area at the moment so have directed me to someone local they vouch for

Thanks so much for sharing @Baxdream but unfortunately the text is too small to read. I'm not sure if you're able to zoom in or enlarge it? Thanks again!

Our (slightly bigger than average) kitchen was quoted at 9k not including worktops and appliances. We are leaning towards DIY Kitchens though and they said if we presented them with a design from them they would price match which is a massive discount as DIY Kitchens are considerably cheaper .

LemonMentor · 07/05/2024 15:19

I am planning to purchase an Ikea kitchen because the extra space gained by eliminating the void and using a smaller plinth is substantial. Additionally, the affordability is appealing. However, I've been considering bespoke doors because, although I appreciate the lerhyttan style, I don't believe grey or black would suit our design. But since we're undergoing a significant extension and refurbishment, our budget is tight. I'm curious if spray painting the doors might be a more cost-effective option. For perspective, the bespoke doors would add about £4,000 to the price—they are £6,000 compared to Ikea's £2,000, although the lerhyttan doors might be slightly more expensive.
