Hi
We bought an old property and hired a builder to renovate for us. Unfortunately, we ran out of money (large, unforeseen problems) and, although all the building work has been completed, we are only just now in the position to finish the interior. But I just don't know which order the remaining work needs to be done.
We need to:
- Rehang all doors (including attaching the fittings).
- Paint said doors (have been dipped and primed).
- Build built in wardrobes in bedrooms.
- Build built in cabinets in lounge.
- Paint throughout (including sanding, filling in holes etc.). The walls already have a mist coat. However, the skirting, moulding around the doorways, bannisters, window woodwork etc. all need stripping/sanding etc.
I assume carpenter/joiner first to build the wardrobes/cabinets, as they will need to be painted. Do the doors need hanging first, or are they better off off for ease of painting and then hung?
Who hangs doors? A joiner, or "handyman"? Would a painter and decorator strip paint (old house with original paint which has chipped off in a lot of places)?
We had originally contracted our builder to do this, but we weren't overly happy with them, so don't want them back.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
