Not sure I can explain this without a diagram, so please bear with me!
We are in a semi and have an extension sticking out into the back garden. Our attached neighbours want to build a stone, raised patio, which would take up the same footprint on their side as our extension does on ours, if that makes sense? So at the back of our house we have the extension, and at the back of theirs, they'd have the patio.
Currently, there's a (very wobbly at the moment!) fence running up the boundary (it's our fence) and it terminates about a foot past the corner of our extension. Neighbours have asked, nicely, if when we repair the fence from wind damage, we can alter fence to terminate at the corner of our extension (thus making the side wall of our extension the actual boundary between our land and theirs), as they want to build their patio.
I'm a bit wary about this. I think it's important to keep the boundary line defined - as it stands, our extension wall is about 6 inches inside the boundary line. I'm also concerned that if we take the fence back to the point where the extension wall ends, they will build the patio right up against our wall and possibly bridge the damp course.
So I've said that instead, we will run the fence up along the boundary line, until it gets to the main house wall. This would mean that our extension wall would be partly covered with a fence, and about 3 inches between them. Is that going to be ok for air circulation?? I'm concerned about damp.
Sorry, this is long-winded and possibly about the most boring thread I've ever started!
