Estate agents and property developers...

What do you think about this? I have been trying to get in to view a flat. I have spoken to them a couple of times and left reminders with receptionist; but he doesn't call back. One of the receptionists noted that their system said I'd already viewed it. He suggested it is unmortgageable (it's not) and literally wouldn't engage beyond pleasantries.

The flat itself needs a complete revamp and is on at a competitive price. I think the EA might be holding off viewings and reserving it for a developer crony. Have you ever heard of such things happening? And how do I get round him?

The EA may have a better idea of what flats are not mortgageable. The ESW1 issue has left a lot of lovely flats in good order unmortgagable

The vendor may have asked for cash only which isn’t completely unusual especially if they need a quick sale

Can't answer your question specifically, but as someone looking for a house to buy I can tell you there's a special place in Hades for estate agents.

Yes, good points that I hadn't considered

@Ihopeyourcakeisshit I do find some of them just can't help lying even when really not required! Some of them are great though - the agency I used to sell my house have been great (give or take the odd untruth!) - also mainly female!

There are crap agents just like there are crap people in any profession.
I doubt he's waiting for some one specific- he'd have notified them before it hit the open market. Of course any agent should have lists of 'hot' buyers who they know are looking for a specific kind of property, be they a developer or a keen buyer. That's why you register with them in the first place.
As for this particular situation, it does seem odd the agent doesn't at least ask you your position and explain why this flat may not be appropriate.

Sold a house last year. First agents seemed OK until their area manager got involved and seemed deranged. Went to 2nd agent who was brilliant, he really knew his stuff and gave me good advice and sold the house. Oh and his commission was lower as well so a win win there.
