Help me knock about my new house

Hi all,

I am currently in the process of buying a bungalow that needs some modernisation but is otherwise in a good state of repair.

I am looking to maximise the space and am looking for any suggestions and ideas that you may have. I have attached the floor plan (hopefully Grin)- what do you think I can do with this space?

Focus on getting the living space on the side with the best view/light. Put bathrooms and bedrooms on the otherside

The living space is relatively straightforward. The hallway/bedrooms/bathroom is a mess though. Is the hallway really dark?

The simplest thing is probably make bed 1 and 2 and bathroom and conservatory into open plan kitchen living room.
Leave the lounge.
Extend the hallway down to the last few rooms to be bedrooms, maybe with ensuite/dressing room if space permits.
The storage room could be an office/guest room/game room for teens/snug for seniors or leave it as storage whichever suits the family. Someplace the quietest or loudest person in the family can be hived off into when its needed Grin
Old kitchen can be new bathroom.

If money for an extension could be fine I would hold off and wait until I could do that and then do something like the attached.
Bedrooms are numbered in red (assumed it would be possible for window in side of bed 2.

Bathroom where utility was and other blue bit is a wet room. Old kitchen would be utility off new kitchen. Yellow is the hall.

Is it detached or semi? Only "my" bathroom has no window.

Obviously no idea of where plumbing is or load bearing walls etc etc.

What @SoupDragon had drawn, living one side and sleeping through other, perfect for the orientation of the house in my book too.

Move the entrance into the garage and have a lovely hall + utility room and coat cupboard there.

Crabwoman · 12/03/2021 13:33

What @soupdragon did it more or less what my parents did with their garage. It's a really good use of space.

Looking at it again, there's no real need to switch the location of the bathroom. Leave it it where it is but extend it into the storage or swap it with the bedroom closest to the living area. Can be expensive to move it because of plumbing/drainage.
