Does anybody want to critique my kitchen plan?

Hello,

After months on the DIY kitchens planner and a cheeky consultation with Wren, this is what I have come up with.

The red box on the plan will be microwave housing. One set of double doors are from the hallway into the kitchen and the others are pocket doors from the kitchen to the dining room.

The larder unit at the end of the run will be a breakfast station like this containing kettle, toaster coffee machine, cereals and a larder unit at the bottom. cdn.humphreymunson.co.uk/uploads/2017/11/Oak-Lodge-Norfolk-Humphrey-Munson-Kitchen-Low-Res-9.jpg.

The overhang on the island will drop down to allow chair seating rather than stools and will be in oak. Something like www.pinterest.co.uk/pin/51932201938099893/

Would love to hear your thoughts. I think I have got the basics correct - dishwasher next to sink, pull out bin in island between sink and cooker. Washing machine and dryer are in the utility.

Welcome any thoughts and thanks in advance!

The single wall unit to the right of the sink looks a bit strange by itself. Can it be linked up with the tall unit?
The eye line of the top edge of the units goes up and down.
The back splash would look better if it extended right along to the tall unit.
Make sure vertical edges on top and bottom units match up .
Personally I'd have more units than a sofa in the room as I hate the idea of soft furnishings trapping cooking smells. I'd also have a kitchen table and chairs as they can be moved to other rooms for parties etc.

You don't have anywhere near enough work surfaces IMO. Also, just personal taste, but I don't like the flooring. Reminds me of a 1970's kitchen. Sorry. Blush

Thanks all. I think I will readjust the layout to include the fridge/freezer where the range is and the range in the main run.

The island looks small in the pic but it will have 400 overhang. I think it could go a little bigger.

May have to forgo the breakfast station if its going to cause an obstruction but I'll discuss with my fitter to see what he recommends and if there is enough clearance for it.

@veuvestar where is your table from please? It's lovely.

mcmooberry · 12/03/2021 10:18

OP could you make your island bigger and incorporate an induction hob? It's great not cooking facing the wall!

Veuvestar · 12/03/2021 12:34

Mcmooberry- thank you- the cabinet maker made it for me. I’ll message his details

edibletreats · 15/03/2021 10:33

@mcmooberry I just don't think that will work for me. I cook a lot, and sometimes in quite large quantities and I fear I'm just not a tidy enough cook to enable me to cook on an island! It would forever look cluttered and untidy.

Would an island with sunken bench / booth seating work in your space?
There is another thread with more examples but I can't seem to find it

Sorry I've had to reregister and can't post images
