Mortgage missed payment remortgage advice

Hi first time poster!
I am looking for some mortgage advice from anyone that knows about mortgages or has perhaps been in my situation.
I was late with two mortgage payments in a row due to the death of my father I messed up the direct debit so it came up as late twice on my credit file, this was a year ago and as I have never had missed payments with anything before I just assumed I could remortgage for a three bedroom house and I was declined for a mortgage with a few high street lenders. I just wondered if anyone has been in this position before and if they had hope with a mortgage broker or mortgage companies that are willing to take on someone with I guess bad credit and I know this may mean high interest rates.
Just for reference I am a single mum
I earn Around £60k a year and I have around £80k for a deposit due to equity in my home and my credit score is around 860 on Experian and no debt.
I guess nobody will touch me due to the late payments.
Any help would be appreciated oh and I stay in Scotland not sure if that makes a difference

You said remortgage in your title.

Are you in a property and you were on a fix that has come to an end, you’ve gone onto a variable and want a new deal?

Have you tried looking at your current provider? Eg with Halifax the last time I did this, going to a new mortgage provider was lots of questions and a credit check but took 10 mins online to remortgage with the Halifax with few questions and no check.

On the credit stuff you could contact the agencies and ask to put a note on circumstances.

In any case it will drop off completely after 6 years. In meantime will be considered less important at 3 years after the event
(And slightly less important after 1 year AFAIK)

Speak to a broker, your situation isn't at all unusual, and is certainly not necessarily the end of the world.
And as PP said the older the missed (also important- Missed, or late?) payments are the less impact they will have.

I'm very sorry for your loss Flowers
