Anyone with experience of this shower?

Hi, I just wondered if anyone had this type of shower screen set up? Does the water go all over the bathroom floor? Does it splash outside the shower? Is the screen long enough?

Anyone with experience of this shower?

A villa we stayed in last year had one of these and it flooded every time we used it.
It could just be that the drainage was poor but I don’t want to risk it! Dh likes this type but said no as they make me nervous😬

Bmidreams · 10/03/2021 13:02

Ha ha! Exactly, me too! You mean the shower tray flooded? It was not the water getting past the screen?

We’re planning a new bathroom and have been looking at this style. We can only go up to 1100mm and we just don’t think the screen on that type will be anywhere near enough to stop water on the floor. We’re going for one with a door instead.

PresentingPercy · 10/03/2021 13:10

You need around 1m of screen to keep water in. 1200 is better. A door is better if you are short of space.

Mostly the tray but water did splash out the screen too depending how tall the person was in it !
minipie · 10/03/2021 13:55

Yes agree with PresentingPercy, you need a lot more screen (ideally 1200mm) to keep water in. Can’t see the dimensions here but it looks more like 700-800mm.

Bmidreams · 10/03/2021 13:57

Ok, thanks for this. We have just started looking and aren't aware of the pros and cons of everything yet, but it just doesn't seem like enough cover from the screen. They do look good though and avoids the problem of doors turning rickety.

We had one and water didn’t go outside of the shower at all. We did have a bath mat though.

GlueSuedeShoes · 10/03/2021 13:59

I worry you’d get a cold draught from the bathroom so went for a proper door

ThePlantsitter · 10/03/2021 14:02

These are like the emperor's new clothes in my opinion, everybody saying 'they don't flood! Looks it's not flooding!' as the bathmat floats by.

We have one that's not raised like this (i.e. just a screen in a wet room) and I HATE IT.

picklemewalnuts · 10/03/2021 14:03

In that shower, I don't understudy you wouldn't have the opening where the other piece of glass is.
So a long glass wall with a short open side opposite the shower.

I can't have that in my bathroom as the walls are on three sides.

BonnyandPoppy · 10/03/2021 14:06

Whenever we have used showers like this in holiday cottages the floor has always got wet so we went for a frameless sliding door. We only had 1400mm space though and walls on three sides. Plumber tried to convince us that we could have one like that but didn't succeed. Also I also find them draughty.

Cluckycluck · 10/03/2021 14:06

We have one like this and water splashing out is minimal. It's not our main shower so when it is used I use put a towel down or move the bath mat. It would probably annoy me of it was our main shower though

BritPopBabe · 10/03/2021 14:09

We have a 1200mm screen and longer tray. A bit of water comes out of the side but not much. Would def not go any smaller, for an en suite I'm doing at the moment we're having a hinged door.

Bmidreams · 10/03/2021 14:16

@BonnyandPoppy what's a frameless sliding door please?

I didn't even think of it being draughty!! That would be awful!!

To me, this looks lovely. But fitter keeps talking about doors always going rickety after a while. This looks so practical, plus you could have shower head in the middle.

Ours is more open than this, it’s closed at one side by the wall. And then the other side by the shower screen, but there is no door in front, it’s totally open. We have no water on the floor and the tray is a low profile one so basically flat to the floor. The tray it’s self is invisibly angled in its build so the water runs to the drain quickly.

I think it depends on firstly how high your water pressure is. I’d say ours is medium it’s a decent shower. And secondly the build quality of the tray, if the water immediately runs to the drain. If it’s pure flat clearly water is going to go everywhere, but built correctly the water drains immediately, too high water pressure snd water is going everywhere then too.

BonnyandPoppy · 10/03/2021 14:24

@Bmidreams it's one which has glass edges and no frame around it to get moldy. Ours is a sliding door.

We got this one in 1400mm wide and are happy with it. Door is nice and solid.

Bluntness100 · 10/03/2021 14:26

Ours is like this basically but with only one end open, the other end is against the wall . The single large sceeen connected with a bar. The same type of flat tray, and no issues at all of water escaping.

Thanks both for sharing. Nothing is ever simple! I'm going to have to go to some bathroom stores to see them in the flesh. We have a teeny budget too none

BonnyandPoppy · 10/03/2021 14:43

Think if you have the room for a 1700mm shower tray and 1200mm screen then your fine. Then you can still get round it into the shower. We didn't have that much room in our ensuite.

BonnyandPoppy · 10/03/2021 14:45

and the one from Victoria Plum we bought feels like much better quality than the ones we saw in Bathstore and Wickes. Time will tell if it gets rickety as we only installed it in October.

PresentingPercy · 10/03/2021 16:20

We have a shower we installed 30 plus years ago with a door snd it’s still 100% solid! It wasn’t cheap and it’s heavy glass with very robust stainless steel hinges. I’m afraid you get what you pay for. Cheap screens, doors and hinges just don’t last.,

Oh I like that ! We are moving on Friday (I hope) and I’d love one like this in the en-suite .

We have what you describe, screen along the long edge then open on the short edge. It works well. I like the fact there's no door to open in winter, it's still nice and cosy in the steam but you don't get the cold blast from the change when you open the door to get out at the end. There are no drafts in my bathroom though, with the window shut!
