Fitted wardrobes

Hey all how much should we be paying for fitted wardrobes? We’ve had a quote for two sets of fitted double wardrobes about 3.5m height 2.5m across the back of our two bedrooms £4900 - includes painting handles etc and building round awkward central heating boiler and water tank. Is this ok? I have no idea! IKEA pax doesn’t work for us because of the measurements involved. Cheers

I did find fitted wardrobes extortionate! We paid £4K five years ago for two sets around the same size as you. We used John Lewis which was about £1.5k less than other quotes we were given. Could probably have gotten it cheaper through a joiner to be fair but your quote doesn’t seems miles off.

We've recently ordered ours from Sharps, one double and one triple, just over 4K. So seems about right. We've not had them fitted yet but feeling like they'll be worth it to maximise storage etc.

Thanks both

Wow that is TALL!!!! I can't help much. I had two quotes recently for a very different size. 2.3 high,2.75 wide, front frame only mdf doors with mirror in the middle. £1k from one place not inc fitting and £2.4k one place inc fitting (which seemed high).
We have Ikea pax. Like it. Very flexible. Doesn't fit the space exactly of course but it is just in our spare room.

We had a small, local specialist company do ours. They cost £1,500 for floor to ceiling wardrobes around 2m wide, including sliding mirrored doors, hanging space and internal drawers.

They also quoted us another £1,200 each for two more bedrooms which we haven’t had done yet. I’d definitely ask around for local recommendations - saved us a fortune and the wardrobe looks brilliant!

Wordsworth that seems good

Lottie yes I would get Pax if I could but really doesn’t fit in the space ☹️ Maybe for the loft room though ...

sorry I had misread your post re Pax. Definitely shop around. I've heard good things about hpp glide doors. They are trade only but supply to local stores who sell to customers. Good luck with the project.

Lottle · 11/03/2021 22:01

And if you know a good joiner you could look into whether supply only and paying a joiner to fit is cheaper, depending on the type of company.

trader21c · 12/03/2021 18:26

Yes we will look at all options! Perhaps spend a weekend doing more research - thanks Lottie

Our ceilings are that height but we opted to have our built in wardrobes up to the picture rail.
In two other alcoves we had bespoke freestanding wardrobes made by pineland.co.Uk - they come painted in the colour of your choice which saves a fortune in painters charges. They only cost £1,600 for the two.
These photos were taken before we put the knobs on.

Get quotes from local joiners. We had awkward spaces for ours and a local joiner did them for literally half the price of what Hammonds quoted us.

strawbmilk · 12/03/2021 19:58

We paid £5k for

  • wardrobe with internal drawers & internal mirror
  • corner wardrobe with double hanging
  • wardrobe with internal shelving
  • 2 cupboards with internal shelving
  • 1 bedside table

Wardrobes are full height to ceiling.

I was sick at the cost but one of the best things we have purchased.

HoldontoOneMoreDay · 12/03/2021 20:08

I had a John Lewis quote which would tally up with yours OP. We've ended up getting them custom built by online bedrooms and DP will fit them - he's handy and it's a straightforward space - which is saving us 1.5k on that with more 'inside stuff' than the JL plans. Most of the people round our way go to one local carpenter though and come over all faint at what we were prepared to pay. So it's worth seeing what's available locally.

AuntyFungal · 12/03/2021 20:10

What about asking the company to make the carcasses to Pax internal measurements & then use the Pax interior fittings. You could design the layout you want and it would be cheaper.

So, you’d have x2 100cm & x1 50cm width = 250

Store out of season clothes / spare duvets etc... up top.

MoiJeJous · 13/03/2021 16:52

We had a floor to ceiling 3 large glass door wardrobe fitted for around £1,600 by a local company. Definitely look locally because we were quoted ridiculous amounts by the large companies.
