Satinwood for a pine wardrobe

I painted a pine wardrobe a few years ago with chalk paint and waxed it and it was a total waste of time and money. It looks awful now.

So ive taken the doors off and sanded them today and ill to the rest of it in a few weeks.

I don’t want to use chalk paint again, but i used satinwood from Wilko a few weeks ago on a radiator, looks great but bloody stank the whole house out. To the extent we had a headache.

Which satinwood do you recommend if you’ve painted a pine wardrobe.

I’ve used Wilco’s, I don’t remember much of a smell. I’ve also used Homebase, it’s been fine. Both times on pine furniture.

Not a pine wardrobe but I painted pine doors and woodwork in Dulux Quickdry Satinwood and got a good finish.

I've just painted a large built in cabinet in satin paint from Johnstones - they colour matched the paint for me to match existing kitchen cabinets. I would prime with Zinsser Bin primer first (couple of coats), lightly sand and then use the satin (again, a couple of coats).

Satinwood is normally water based, so not much smell and quick drying.
I have pine doors that I undercoated then used crown ( I think) satinwood.
5 years and counting and I just have to touch up chips around the door handle occasionally, It still shows the woodgrain through the paint so looks really nice.

The satinwood i used was oil based. The reviews mentioned the smell (but i only read them afterwards 🤦🏼‍♀️).

Thank you, ill pop to B&Q tomorrow to have a look. Its a project for easter weekend!
