Townhouse with a baby

Hello all,

Can you please tell me your experiences in having a 3 storey house with a baby? Our current house is very small & DC is in the room opposite us, I have a video monitor on but even without it can still hear if they cry. DC will be 1 soon & sleeps through the night if that makes any difference.

Thank you Smile

i loved it! They learnt stairs safely about 9-12 months. We used stair gates over room doors rather than stairs while we needed to. Bedrooms were over 2 floors - I wouldn't have liked a layout where you nned to regularly use a bedroom that is separated from the others by a kitchen and living room floor though.

I think if we were to go for it we'd use a gate on their bedroom door initially although they're still is a cot & will be for a while. There is only 1 flight of stairs to the living room which is what they'd have now.

Our friends live in a similar house & haven't had any issues although their youngest is a couple of years older than our DC.

Three and a half staircases here (old creaky house). It was a pain post emcs x 2 but now it's fine. I got around that by having somewhere to put them down for a nap on each floor. At the moment they share a room because I don't think ds (6) is old enough to be on a different floor to us at night but it's a big room and they have plenty of other play spaces. With dc2 we never used a stair gate because she was an early walker/climber and it seemed more of a risk. She's nearly 3 now and runs up/down easily.

Could you sleep in the bigger of the 2 bedrooms on the 2nd floor until they're older? We currently use our "master" bedroom as a sitting room for example.

@Dinosauratemydaffodils That's something we are considering. We could keep everything in the master but sleep in the large double.

@LittleOverwhelmed The stairs didn't seem narrow but definitely worth another looks. Our current ones are so steep, I've have to be so careful when bringing the baby down.
