Planning to convert boxroom upstairs into a laundry room.
Current job list is:
Electrician: sort out suitable sockets / power supply
Flooring specialist / tiler / maybe even me: tank & tile floor
Plumber: sort out water supply and drain(s)
Me: repaint, install vibration mat, washing machine tray, install some sort of hanging rails, dehumidifier to go with heated airer

???: Move washer and dryer from old utility room upstairs to new laundry room
Ok who does this last bit?

Do you just ring up removals firms and ask for a quote or...???

Might be more a job for man with a van/we dump your junk than a removal firm. Although I think some companies do both.

halcyondays · 06/03/2021 11:00

Or a handyman

Put up a notice in your local gym / rugby club? The trouble is that if you use randoms then you have no comeback when they are less-than-careful (bashing walls etc) during the move.

Use a local man with a van - they often work in pairs and may advertise locally/on FB, ask friends and neighbours for suggestions too.

TaskRabbit?

rosesarered321 · 06/03/2021 11:28

Ps if you have a Dehumidifier I don't think you'd need a heated clothes airer, I didn't find it any good.

I just rang a couple of removal firms when I needed a huge wardrobe and a big old dresser moved. They charged £50 per hour, £50 minimum. They fit it in between bigger jobs. Also there’s a Jim the White Van man we’ve used for small moves. Like a sofa we’d bought second hand.

They all had insurance and were happy to move whatever.

MaryIsA · 06/03/2021 11:38

The furniture was just moving in my house from one room to another.

Singlenotsingle · 06/03/2021 11:39

Yes of course you can. Just advertise on Facebook.

InteriorDesignHell · 06/03/2021 11:42

Cheers Mary, good to hear.

Yes I think if you pick smallish removal firms in your area they all do this. I've used removals firms several times at different houses for similar jobs.

minniemoocher · 06/03/2021 14:51

Call a man and van service, if you are flexible that would result in them being more reasonable

LolaButt · 06/03/2021 15:03

So you’re just moving it from downstairs to upstairs? I would ask one of the people coming in to do work if they would help me for a bit of extra money.

Dryers aren’t heavy. Even the heat pump ones. Just awkward.

StareIntotheMaggotDrawer · 06/03/2021 15:09

Would the plumber not do it if you get him to connect the washing machine? And maybe the dryer needs to go in first so it all fits neatly, so it’s part of the same job

FrogFairy · 06/03/2021 19:18

Don’t forget you may need to use the transport bolts on your washing machine when you move it.

VeniVidiWeeWee · 06/03/2021 22:47

Any neighbours with older teenagers?

AnnaSW1 · 06/03/2021 22:56

Handyman or man with a van definitely

MojoMoon · 07/03/2021 11:01

The plumber may well have a mate who would come and do it with him.
