Very cheap cosmetic improvements for bathroom?

We've just moved and have inherited a very old and cheap bathroom. Can't afford to put in a whole new one for a while yet, but wondering what we can do to make very cheap and basic cosmetic improvements while we save for a new one.

It's all perfectly functional, but the cheap plastic boarding on the walls (are they called shower boards?) is full of ugly holes drilled into it and leftover bits of plastic where things have been previously stuck on the wall etc. The cheap lino floor is also perfectly functional but has random spotted marks on it. Is there something we can do very cheaply to cover it all over? I know you can do this with tape for kitchen cabinets but not sure what the options are for bathrooms. Any advice or links much appreciated!

Off the top of my head, you could replace the wetwall with cheap stuff that wasn't banged about, the lino floor ditto (or just a whacking great bathmat?)

Speaking as someone who covered up brown bathroom tiles with tile paint and put self adhesive vinyl tiles over the ugly brown lino downstairs and bathroom-safe laminate (couple of coats of varnish on top) upstairs I do sympathize!

I’d second the tile paint and cheap vinyl floor tiles. Also refresh the paint on ceiling and any painted walls.
Refreshing any bath and basin seals and a deep clean to all fittings.

Stuff that made a big difference to my bathroom:
Big boston fern in front of window- draws the eye away from defects, visitors always admire it!

Fluffy white display towels on railing

Nice clean sink

Clear windowsill with 1 yankee candle only

Bath oils on corner of bath

Vinyl floor, replace with a remnant from a flooring shop. Walls, get stuck in things off with white spirit or alcohol, maybe get some fittings to reuse screw holes or fill with e.g. worktop filler to match?

FYI our bath is old and had the plastic exterior had gone yellowish. It was painted over in black which actually looks good.

Can we have a picture?

I'm a past matter at accessorising hideous rented bathrooms to make them look actually quite nice, there's always a way!

You can get super cheap lino from e Bay in super bright colours which make it look purposeful. Ours is bright orange. If your walls and suite are neutral it can look fab (although we went for Quentin Blake wallpaper with flashes of said orange in it, coated several times in decorators varnish, it's a fun family bathroom).

A 2.5 x 2m piece of vinyl will be £30 or less, just use the old stuff as a template and use matching sealant round the edges/sink/toilet. It makes a MASSIVE difference. Cover the damage on the wall panels with shelves/hooks with suction fittings or use filler of a similar colour.
Have a long stone / bamboo / mirrored tray or similar in the window with a nice display of something. I’ve got antiquey style glass bottles and a (fake) succulent plant. Less than £10.

Look at high end online interior sites and copy. A basket or box with properly folded (both sides to middle then end to end) towels always looks good, I keep assorted crap in a rectangular basket and have a nice thick handtowel folded on top.

What's the floor like under the lino? Could you paint the floor boards or panels? Big green plants, stood on floor or window ledge.
