Can't get into safe.

Got a small coded safe. The batteries have gone, so I can't open it. I've only just discovered that there is an override lock. But I have absolutely no idea where the keys are. As I didn't realise it had a key hole! Now what do I do?!

Contact the company you bought it from or the manufacturer if that’s different? Perhaps they kept a note of the key number for your safe?

Phone a locksmith and ask for a quote?

Oooh, please say you found it in a cellar, and belonged to the previous owners who were mysterious and wealthy....

Toddlerteaplease · 04/03/2021 18:56

@Bouncebacker unfortunately not. My parents gave it to me when I moved into the house. It has nothing valuable or exciting in it. Its 12 years old.

I think a locksmith is going to be the only way. I could really do with Bill Rum from Lord Peter Whimseys safe cracking friend. Grin

We had similar but luckily have a massive pot of random keys in the cupboard that no one actually knows are for what - we joke that DH is a key hoarder. We must have tried 40 keys but one worked in the end!!

It may be worth trying some small padlock keys in as that's what fitted ours.

Glimpsesfromafar · 04/03/2021 19:02

We had one, batteries went dead, no key. Had a keypad on the front with a large plastic lock/handle. You could lift it, was supposed to be screwed to the floor.
Opened by giving it a thump on the top edge over the lock as per google.
Never used it again.

Thanks might try that!

there will be a cavity where the batteries are - feel around under the dial for a lid. IT will be a tight fit, but get the battery out and change it. The safe will have remembered its code (I hope you have!)

It might be worth taking it into a warm room. Leave it in the warmth for a couple of days as the warmth will take time to get into the safe. Batteries work better when warm so you might be lucky and get it to open if warmth gives a tiny boost of power.
