Moss on my roof

saltandsugar · 04/03/2021 10:03

I've got a concrete tiled pitched roofed house.
Im planning an extension at the with partial glass roof, also pitched.
I generally have to sweep lumps of moss off the patio every week (where the extension will go)
The glass roof is going to need constant cleaning isn't it? Sad
Are there companies who clean roof's of moss?
Should I get this done before building?

I mean get all the moss removed from my original 2nd storey roof before building the ground floor extension?
Hope that makes sense! non-sleeping toddler here has melted my brain!

Yes you can get the roof cleaned off, you may as well have your fascias/soffits done as well, presumably it’s North facing? Should be £200 ish if no scaffording is needed. Look on Yell for gutter cleaning.

Get them to check your gutters, I thought mine were blocked and overflowing but it turns out that the roofing felt that should drop into the gutter has rotted and water is running down the fascia boards, I need eaves protectors fitting, basically plastic boards that go under the tiles with a channel into the gutters, unfortunately it will need scaffolding at the back over the conservatory.
My glass conservatory roof is filthy, + 2 panes have moss/grime from the NE facing roof and someone is coming to clean it in a couple of weeks, £60 for a full glass and upvc / gutter clean.

It costs me 75 quid just to have the gutters cleaned, but it’s a large three story house.

However I got a quote to clean the roof and it was three grand. They were not going to put scaffolding uo, but that was to power wash, treat it so the moss didn’t come back and replace any broken tiles. I didn’t go ahead, I don’t hate the moss that much.

200 quid seems light to me,

Its birds picking at the moss i think. But yes you will have a constant problem. Get some quotes.

Don't powerwash s roof.

I have no idea why it works but a bare copper wire across the roof just below the ridge stops moss growing on the roof. years ago I fixed a wire like that for a friend and no moss has grown since
