Kitchen walls help

I'll preface this with saying I have no creative vision whatsoever. What would you put on these kitchen walls? I don't want it to look too clinical as we already have the grey gloss worktop so was thinking a splash of colour.
I've been looking into lucidato plaster which looks lovely, just unsure how durable it is in a kitchen.
Argh, help!

I think you could get away with anything bright. Maybe find a rug or accessory you love and pick a highlight colour from that for one or more of the walls.

are you having a tile splashback? and then paint on the walls? so you need to pick two things. Get the tiles right first and then chose a paint colour that matches.

I love Moroccon pattern tiles, so i'd pick a pattern but maybe a subtle one that I wouldn't get bored of. And then pick out one colour from the tiles for the paint.

what style is the rest of your house?

Midlifephoenix · 04/03/2021 15:44

You need some sort of protection for the walls behind the sink and an upstand for the rest. What do you have behind the hob? A coloured glass might be stunning.
The plaster you mentioned is waterproof i believe so would be excellent in the kitchen, but it is also very shiny.

Does the kitchen have a window or is it an interior or semi interior room?

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 04/03/2021 23:06

Is there any natural light/a window? The kitchen looks lovely but currently a little dark so I'd personally keep bold colour to smaller areas - maybe a mix of brightly coloured patterned tiles as a splashback behind the hob and as upstands. Then keep the walls white for a lighter feeling - but perhaps with one painted feature wall (choosing a bright colour from the tiles). You can always add extra colour in accessories if needed.

Thanks for the responses Smile there is a garden room with patio doors (so it is like an "L" shape room), a small window in the corner and 2 velux windows. Here's a couple more pictures to illustrate.
I definitely feel that most of the wall should be white, but love the idea of the Moroccan tiles or coloured splashback!

How about clear splashback with bright pattern behind. Wallpaper would work. Then you could take a colour from that for the end wall.

I've got a glass wall which runs the whole wall behind the hob, and granite upstands behind the sink, I really didn't want tiles and grout. I love the glass wall, it's tangerine, the cupboards are cream and the granite is dark cream with brown and gold flecks.

My kitchen is grey and we painted the walls lime green. I struggled for ages choosing a colour until an elderly lady in B&Q suggested it and it works really well.

GrumpyHoonMain · 04/03/2021 23:53

I think mirror tile or a mirror splashback behind the hob so it reflects light better. Then paint the walls white.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 05/03/2021 02:48

Ah, I see - there is lots of natural light so it's likely the plaster colour on the walls and ceiling making the room look darker than it really is (thinking about it, I remember my newly plastered kitchen/diner looked the same, even with white units like you).

I agree Moroccan style tiles would look lovely as an upstand all around the L shaped units (behind the sink etc) as a contast to the white walls and units - a mix of bold colours and patterns in blues/reds/greens/yellows etc with a white background would add lots of interest. Then I'd consider picking a colour from the tiles for a big plain glass splashback behind the hob on the other side (as it might possibly be easier to clean than tile grout?).

You could then get paint matched and use that same colour for a feature wall at the dining end (where your fridge is in the picture) or another contrasting colour from the tiles might look even better. That way you have some colour on each of the walls, but the largest expanse of colour is closest to the big patio doors so it shouldn't make the room feel at all dark.
