Leak Problem

Hi!

Our flat is leaking into the flat below.. from the location we think it's coming from behind our dishwasher/washing machine. We've called a plumber and turned everything off till someone can come but I wondered if anyone knows if a plumber will remove the integrated appliances to check for a leak? And if the leak isn't obvious and they have to go through the floor, how does this work?

I feel like a complete DIY novice and hate operating blind so any words of wisdom or things to consider would be VERY welcome.

They should have no problem getting the dishwasher out. With any luck it will just be the connection to the water pipe that’s the issue and a simple fix 🤞
They will happily lift up floorboards/go through walls/remove boxing in to get at pipes and will refit the floorboards but the fixing/replacing of flooring/walls is on the homeowner, they just fix the leak,. They should tell you what needs doing and what damage (if any) it will result in, and check you are okay with that, before going ahead though.

They would probably move the integrated appliances. Helpful for you to let them know where all the pipes run through your flat as well. Assume flat above you isnt leaking into yours and running into flat below? Anyway sit tight and you've done your bit by turning stopcock off. Leaks are very stressful esp when other flats are involved.

Thank you! It's so stressful and I'm getting frustrated that I have no idea what to do... Although I remember thinking how hard it must be to fit an oven and when the experts came it took them 5 mins. DIY is not my strong point...

Yes its inevitable leaks are often underfllorboards/beneath baths etc. What the plumber will not do is replaster anything if he does have to go through the floor! My plumber did a £120 fix on a leaking radiator pipe only for me have to pay £200 to get the vinyl floor fixed afterwards!

@Midlifephoenix this was exactly it! Leak under the bath. Luckily it was a relatively easy and non disruptive fix. Plumber was super reasonable on price too which was a nice extra... better than the plumber who tried to charge me £250 to stop a dripping tap!
