we are in a victorian maisonette and need to replace the boiler in a year or two.
thinking of getting an air source heat pump instead.
any experience?
how is the noise/vibration?
I don't want to piss of the neighbours with the noise.

My parents have done in their 4 bed house. It's on the ground floor but it's noisy enough to wake me if I'm in the bedroom above it.

You need to speak to an installer who will give you information. Your property needs to be well insulated. I found the following:

Providing the property is well-insulated, an ASHP is likely to be suitable. Insulation is really important because it prevents heat escaping, enabling the heat pump to work efficiently at lower flow temperatures. The levels of insulation in new build properties, and generally those built in the last 10 years, are likely to be suitable for an ASHP. Older properties will require insulation upgrades like loft, cavity wall and glazing improvements.

My dad lives in New Zealand and has one, they're normal they're as they don't have gas central heating. He says they can easily tune it out when the TV is on. However that made me rule it out I'm afraid, I am really sensitive to background noise and I don't think I could put up with. I want to be more eco but not sure how now. Maybe solar panels and electric heaters?! Getting our housing stock off gas is going to be a major challenge in meeting carbon reductions needs.

We have one, and it's not not noisy, but we replaced an oil burner, not sure ours economic if you have gas.
However as Coffee said your property needs to be well insulated to get the benefit, as the temperature of the water in the radiators is lower than with gas or oil burners.
Look on the Energy Saving Trust for example for more info.

Sorry, to many nots there. It isn't noisy- quieter than the old oil boiler.

thanks all.
will try to get to a show room (if that exists)
house is quite well insulated, with standard radiators.
I've heard the noise is 'like a fridge' so might be really annoying to some people.

I don't think an ASHP is suitable for a Victorian flat at all. I'd just replace the boiler.
