I lived in Devon for 3 years so my first word of advise is living there is very very different to holidaying there. Cornwall especially inland is actually very deprived and I found not that welcoming of “outsiders.” Mundic construction makes purchasing properties with a mortgage a headache too.
What do the teenagers enjoy? If they aren’t outdoorsy I would say you’d want to be in Exeter otherwise you’ll just be a taxi.
Summer is a fucking headache (reversing 2.3 miles down a single track road for some moron in a white bmw who wouldn’t reverse 20 yards was an experience).
Again Exeter is good here as it doesn’t feel like a holiday park but is a short train ride to the beach and short drive to the country.

Where are your relatives located? Have your children already stated any career aspirations? What careers do you have? Do you have any other hobbies or interests?

My son and his family live in North Cornwall. The big drawback is how far they are from a Hospital.

They have lived there a number of years and found the locals to be very welcoming.Loads of people relocate there.

I live 10 miles outside Exeter. Love it. Really beautiful scenery and lovely walks. Close enough to the sea. Exeter’s a lovely little city.

Do you need to work? If so, what work would you be looking to do?

In general, work is low paid and housing very expensive so you'll either need a good income of some kind or be moving with a very large deposit/small or no mortgage.
