Did you compromise for a house based on great location and if so- what did you sacrifice and did you regret it?

DH and I have found a property that is literally in our dream location- a popular village where properties don't come up very often and certainly not within our budget. There are things we definitely like about the house (good size south facing garden), but we would definitely be making some sacrifices in ways that the house is less ideal, namely size of kitchen and one of the bedrooms and there is parking for the property but it's located further down the road.

Whilst we umm and ahh about how much location location location really is the biggest factor I was wondering if anyone else here made some compromises on the house they bought to get in their dream location - if so what were the sacrifices you made and do you regret it? Thanks all! Smile

We've had another look and am not convinced that we could change the parking situation. DH has also done more research and we'll have to confirm with the agents as it's the same agent who's marketed it in the past but it looks like it sat on the market for 3 years at one point!? (and was reduced twice in price during this time). If true that would set alarm bells off for us, not that we intend to move out of our next house anytime soon but equally we're unlikely to not want to move for the rest of our lives so have to factor that in too.

We compromised on not having a driveway or attached garage, so we have to walk to our car. We also have a fairly small garden and no downstairs toilet. However I love where we live. The neighbours are lovely, great schools, lots of green spaces. Although we have a small garden, we overlook a green where the kids can play out with their friends. The whole place feels family friendly and safe.

Sometimes I get a bit fed up with walking to the car, but I don't regret choosing to live here. Overall the good location outweighs the problems

House is overall smaller than we would have wanted but location is awesome and it does have small amount of flexibility for an extension which we will do in time. Location is worth it for schools, countryside and fast train to London.
