House for sale with "no internal inspection" near Mablethorpe

I was daydreaming on Rightmove, looking at houses for sale by auction, when I came across this one that looks fine from the outside... but it says: "Due to nature of the sale no internal inspection will be available to prospective bidders."

How can you buy somewhere you haven't seen inside? (Mind you, it's been on the market since last August.)

What does it even mean? Grin

Weird! Do you think it's because a bit of it might fall on you if you go in?

Therearenomore · 25/02/2021 13:12

The back door is boarded up isn't it?
I'm guessing it's been trashed by squatters or kids and the owners are trying to shift it via auction to developers...

Rainbowshine · 25/02/2021 13:16

It’s possibly being sold at auction if it’s not going to be mortgageable. So cash buyers only, which usually means developers who can flip it or someone happy to take on a project of that scale. The non access may mean structural issues so unsafe or it may be the keys are inaccessible (common in probate sales). Your best bet if you’re interested is to call the auction house and ask.

Liquorishtoffee · 25/02/2021 13:16

Maybe the squatters are still in there!

I can safely say that I'm not interested in buying Grin
I was just puzzled and nosy re the situation.

If you read the brochure below the description it says they have been unable to access the interior for inspection. It does gave the particulars for its last sale in 2009.

iceicesunsun · 25/02/2021 13:30

it used to be a care home, the owner went bankrupt back in 2011 so it's probably in a terrible state inside and need total renovation to get it back to a unusable state.

WinterIsGone · 25/02/2021 13:38

How sad. I've never seen a house you couldn't look inside before. I wonder who would buy it with no viewings.

and therefore presumably owned by a bank - do reposessions sometimes refuse access because of the lengths they've gone to in order to secure the empty property?

There was a place like this on homes under the hammer, It was unsafe, the windows and doors boarded up, I think a few celings were down, when the buyer got inside it was like an open sewer from the drains.

FurierTransform · 25/02/2021 14:34

I'd guess they just don't have the keys. If someone were serious about bidding on it I'd guess they'd just go round in the evening and break in through the back door to have a look around.
But tbh you could get a pretty good idea of the condition just by looking through he windows & studying the exterior.
Looks nice!

If it is in a desirable area, the idea might be that someone would buy it and demolish it to build something else?

Have you ever been to Mablethorpe? Grin

I like it but 'desirable?!

itsgettingwierd · 25/02/2021 16:57

I just clicked the link and got a message that the listing had been removed by the agent Confused

Talia99 · 28/02/2021 17:56

I don’t know anything about the area, no. I take it that demolishing older properties to put up new ones because of a scarcity of land isn’t a thing. In that case, I have no idea.

MariaAngustias · 28/02/2021 18:54

I am with @iceicesunsun in wanting to know 'have you ever been to Mablethorpe?' but I do not share ice's fondness for the place.

I have worked there, fortunately quite briefly, few years back. Place is a magnet for retired wanting to live cheaply by the sea, very poorly connected to the rest of the world and my impression was that there is a lot of social deprivation, drugs and poverty probably compounded by lack of local services.

Place was UKIP /Brexit central - deep red neck territory - you have been warned.

Macaronirabbit · 01/03/2021 07:42

We looked at a house that apparently "required modernisation" but had that sort of police tape/cordoned off some of the rooms because the ceilings were unsafe. There were huge gaps next to the windows. It was basically a rebuild and as it was the top end of our budget we couldnt afford that level of work. But it went for over the asking price (and has been rebuilt)

Reedwarbler · 01/03/2021 07:48

I would imagine it is unsafe and they are worried about being sued. Lack of keys is no problem - a locksmith could sort that out in short order.
