Wardrobes for a small bedroom

Moved house before Christmas and in the process of renovating. I'm in the back bedroom (it's just me, I live with my 19yo son who I've given the front bedroom to). It's a small bedroom which currently has the boiler in it. I'm getting it relocated to the kitchen to give me more space.

Looking at wardrobes - I was originally thinking of Pax but having come to my senses I realise they will be far too big and overwhelming (not to mention the fact they'd be too deep..) so I'm looking for alternative freestanding ones.

Ceilings are high, but there is a slope on the window wall. I'm going to put the wardrobe against the wall at the foot of the bed (see photo of badly drawn plan enclosed). I can only have a wardrobe with a max depth of about 55cm because of the space between the bed and the wall, and even then it will slightly jut beyond the window sill.

So I'm looking for ideas or recommendations for freestanding wardrobes (I don't think fitted ones would work). I'd like to maximise the height of the room, and also go as far along as possible on that wall - either with a wardrobe(s) as far as possible or ideally a double wardrobe plus a chest of drawers (to stand the TV on). Ikea have the Brimnes and Hauga wardrobes, so if anyone has experience of those that would be good to hear about!

I've also thought about having the wardrobes on the wall next to the bed (right hand side as you look at the plan) but thought that might be a bit overwhelming as you'd face the end panel of the wardrobe as you enter. Oh and ideally would like space for a small dressing table somewhere in the room too... TIA

We had PAX fitted last year and yes they are very deep, deeper than the fitted wardrobes we had before. Depth is related to height I think, so they are stable (tho ours were screwed to the wall). So if you don’t want them too deep you might have to sacrifice height. Maybe use storage boxes above?

And sliding doors will save space.

There is a shallow version of pax but it does make for less storage.

I know it's not what you planned with the bed, but how would the room work if you put the bed under the window with the restricted head height, then a dressing table and TV at the bottom of the bed, and wardrobes where you were originally planning to put them?

We have the shallow pax. The highest it could go. The clothes hang forwards on pull out rails and it's got drawers and 2 shelves inside it. We fold jumpers/jeans rather than hang. Its made us streamline massively and realise what we actually wear! Very summery stuff lives in a box under the bed for the 6 weeks a year it can be used!

I would also swing your bed around to go under the window - a much better use of space.

@muddledmidget @Africa2go I had considered this (my son's done it in his bedroom) but I've never slept below a window before and wasn't sure how that would feel....Blush

I was having some additional sockets put in today either side of where the bed is in the plan but it turns out the house needs rewiring and the sockets weren't done so I could go for that layout instead- every cloud and all that Grin

@gretagreengrapes I thought I had already streamlined before moving but I realise I have more work to do Wink

So if I go for that plan I could potentially still have pax but the narrow depth I think. That is if they ever come into stock again!! Seems like the world has decided to renovate.....

I have a couple of Pax wardrobes, with panel/frosted glass doors (think it’s birkeland) so not visually overwhelming

They fit so much in vs other wardrobes that I think you can have less wardrobe needed for same storage
