Please help, probably a stupid question

I have an electric cooker/hob. I turned the hob on and it tripped all of the plug sockets. Tried it again just to make sure it was the hob and it was, so that's broken.

So does this mean I can't use the oven either? Or will that still work? Blush
Am I living off microwave meals until I get a new cooker?!

Do you know if your hob and oven are on the same or separate circuits? Mine are on separate ones, so I can use both independently. Check the fuse board. And call an electrician out - it may be a fault with the hob causing everything to trip, or with the wiring and circuit.

There are two issues I think.

Firstly, a cooker/hob should be on a separate circuit to 13 amp sockets, so I'd get an electrician in to check it has been wired in properly.

Secondly it may be faulty or it may simply be wired into a too-low rated ring. It might be fine when wired to a proper cooker circuit with appropriate fuse.

Re: the oven it depends whether the oven and hob are a single unit or two separate appliances and what they are wired into.

You need an electrician to check the installation first. While he's visiting, ask him to check the units are earthed properly as well.

Thanks for replying @ComtesseDeSpair @Mintjulia , I have no idea about the circuits! I'll call the electrician out and leave well alone until then.
Thank you for the advice Flowers
