My NDN has been talking about extending out by 6m for over a year now and told me I should get a letter from the council. The couple we bought the house from a year ago told us at the time that the NDN wanted to do this extension.

They clearly are still wanting to extend and came round 3 weeks ago to discuss with us. No drawings but just general what they are trying to do. There is something about them that makes me not trust them. I can’t quite put my finger on it.

I would object because because it would be greatly overbearing and block my light. They know that.

I just can’t figure out what they are up to and why I have not received anything from the council. Is there anyway they could get the 6m extension planning through without us being consulted?

We are on speaking terms and we are not in dispute although I don’t know for how long because I can see they are the sort that if they don’t get their way then you become the enemy.

Your neighbours @Coolandclamy have to consult you - it’s under the Party Wall Agreement - details below for you:

www.gov.uk/party-walls-building-works

I’m not a solicitor and my knowledge only relates to our ex property in which our NDN’s didn’t consult us before doubling the size of our attached cottages causing us significant damp problems after putting in a floating foundation.

From my understanding of this (and I’d read it carefully to make sure it does apply! As above I’m not a solicitor and it may not) they have to consult you and if you are not happy (and if it’s going to block your light you have a right to be) there is a dispute process you can follow.

The dispute would be that the house has been extended already. So no PD at all!

@PresentingPercy that’s the issue. Thank you.

@PresentingPercy you mentioned linking to a narrative. I did not see the link. I would love to read it. I did not know that PD is only for first extensions. Yes they extended the rear already and want to extend it further.

So sorry.. This is about the PD rules from www.homebuilding.co.uk
I think there are other restriction on size and how much land is used etc. I would investigate it further but I don’t think they have a clean slate to start from scratch now regarding an extension. I would try and speak to your planning department.
