House on market for 5-7 years

Hello all,

Can anyone think why a property would on the market for this long?

We've seen this:

2 Douglas Terrace, , Lockerbie, DG11 2DZ
www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-50637613.html

Fits our requirements... the home report is all 1's but is dated 2013?! Zoopla (listing history) says the property has been on the market since 2013 and rightmove says 2015. Im going to ring the agent tomorrow and investigate.

Maybe the sellers don't really want to sell?! Maybe you guys can see something I can't?

My mums house was on the market for 2-3 years because they were asking too much for it. They probably paid too much for it when the bought it, then wanted to make money on it when selling ... eventually they accepted a low offer.

But 7-8 years ?!!

Location, it's too close to the motorway.

Prove snd location. Check flight paths too

It’s not been sold to an investment company or anyone else recently. It’s not changed hands for Decades as it’s not on the new Land Register.

If you are seriously interested in buying it then it’s reasonable to expect a refreshed home report.

There was a house for sale opposite us that was on the market for 5 years. It belonged to a family where the mum moved in with a new bloke and wanted to sell the house to pay for a property with her new partner. The dad was having none of it and put the house on the market to appease her, with zero intention of selling until he'd sorted his own life out. The house was identical to ours, which we sold for a similar price, in 5 days.

That house is lovely, it's clearly well looked after and I'd jump at the chance to own it. It may be overpriced or in a rubbish location but I'd still want to look at it, at least.

I don't know the local market but it's probably quite a lot of money for that area as there's no major towns or cities really within commuting distance to attract high wage earners.
Is there a home valuation report as that would tell you if it's overpriced? There's only 1 other "similar" property and that's got an extra bedroom, more modern interior and is offers over £350k so £50k less on the offers over price.
I also suspect it might experience road noise as it seems to be very close to the A74(M) which is the continuation of the M6 up to Glasgow.
