Getting paint off glass - tips?

This spring, I want to repaint our hallway. I did it once before when we moved in, but a fairly quick job. It is in a state now and really needs doing.

One of the worst parts is that the previous owner did all his own painting, apparently with a trowel! There is a very nice solid wood door in the hall with glass panels and when he painted he left large streaks of old-fashioned gloss all over it.

I'd love to keep the door but need to get the paint off the glass without scratching it.

Any tips?

Carefully paint on paint stripper to soften the paint and then scrape off. Should work.

If it's flat glass, get yourself something like this www.wilko.com/en-uk/wilko-glass-tile-scraper/p/0343654, doesn't scratch and with some paint striper it should come off no problem. If it's textured it's harder.

Use a little plastic scraper , the type you put a Stanley knife blade in. You won’t scratch the glass if you keep it flat when using it. You can get them from most places b,q screwfix, toolstation etc.

I saw one of those diy programs years ago when they used to be good. One tip one week was to use WD-40 to remove paint from glass. You need to leave it to get under the edges but it dies work. Use a wooden Lolly or cocktail stick to pick out the paint from intricate areas and prevent scratching the glass.

Stanley blade on its side.

I second Stanley blade. My dad has used it for this kind of thing for years. It's always worked without issues.

I'd use a razor blade.

yep, agree with the Stanley blade almost on its side.

Always works for me

Wow, thanks! The glass is textured. It is the house's original front door which has now been built around so v heavy wood and textured glass panels for privacy. Might try WD40 first then Stanley knife if not.
