Started this thread yesterday but in the midlands. My head is all over and now looking at north east.
suddenly found myself soon-to-be single with 2 dcs.
Am starting with a blank sheet and am looking for small town, large village, 3 beds, good primary and secondary schools for £150 to £170,000.
Any chance of nice areas to live that fit the bill?

No idea about schools, sorry, but in more general terms Bishop Auckland itself, Crook or Darlington all have nice areas and good housing stock in your price range. good luck finding something

our house!!!

SharpMolarBear · 04/11/2007 14:58

although we've already sold sorry, just got carried away. We're about 10 miles away from north Bishop Auckland.
How local are you at the moment? are you going to work in Bishop Auckland, and if so, where (rough location)?
Want to meet up when you move?

SharpMolarBear · 04/11/2007 15:06

Shout out some places and I'll tell you what I think of them

auntiebetty · 04/11/2007 15:35

thanks sharp I really have no idea. Will need to find p-t job, primary and secondary school and a 3 bed house fo £150 to £170. Where did you live?

Esh Winning, to the west of durham city
You shouldn't have a problem finding a house for that price up here.
Reeds Rains, Robinsons estate agents, jw wood, ww.sps.net, county durham properties, broadley & coulson, stuart edwards are all estate agents we've used.
Schools, my LO is still only 6 months but there is an very good primary (according to ofsted) one in witton le wear, which is near bishop auckland. That area is very rural though.

auntiebetty · 04/11/2007 19:30

where you moving to sharp?

A little village called Waterhouses, just a few minutes away
Have you had any ideas so far? Why have you picked Bishop Auckland?
(Just tell me if I'm being nosey!!)

auntiebetty · 05/11/2007 10:31

sharp - family live in Bishop auckland (but have no idea of schools or other areas!). I thought about staying near dh but I don't think I can manage emotionally without my family support.
2 weeks ago I had a perfect life and now I can hardly make it through each day.

come on all you n-east mums. If you had £160ish to spend where would live between south of durham city and darlington? Need good schools.

perhaps restart the thread with those areas in the title. I used to live near there but too long ago to be able to advise you now.

auntiebetty · 05/11/2007 16:58

thanks cargirl will give it a try

Sorry to hear your story The north east is a fantastic place to live

triplets · 05/11/2007 22:45

My brother lives in Spennymoor, not the prettiest of places but all around it is! He used to live in Tudhoe just down the road, that was lovely. He has a 5yr old who has just started school in Spennymoor, St Charles I think its caled, looks pretty good. We live in Kent but go up once a year, I love it up there and house prices are so low compared to here, we could be living in a mansion! Sorry to hear about your troubles, good luck with everything.

Hi ab.
Sorry to hear about your circumstances

I'll try and help the best I can.
I'm in Northallerton so about 20 miles ish from BA.
Its a fab place to live. Nice sort of villagey feel to it but a good town with plenty of shops and facilities and good schools.

Have you had a look on righmove?

Nbg · 06/11/2007 11:07

ok heres a few

Barton, which is classed as Richmond so a bit closer to BA
This is a popular estate in Catterick Garrison
Bedale which is very close to Northallerton and has a lovely little town centre

Loshad · 06/11/2007 11:13

Staindrop
nice village and good school
problem is quality of secondary schools in the area, not many good ones.
wouldn't personally go for spennymoor

CarGirl · 06/11/2007 16:07

used to work in northallerton it was lovely, how about Yarm or is that too far away (or too expensive?)

Caroline1852 · 06/11/2007 16:53

Wolsingham is nice. As is Barnard Castle. Richmond (N Yorks) is nice too and apparently it has the highest man to woman ratio in the country..... might be just what you need.
