Laundry room

It looks as though we might be able to extend further than we were currently expecting to be able to for our first floor extension.

This would enable us to extend the two bedrooms to a decent size but one would be very long and thin.

I was thinking of maybe using some of that space for a small laundry room. It wouldn't need to house the actual washing machine/tumble dryers but I thought it could maybe be space to dry/sort/iron washing.

Does anyone have similar? Or any inspiration?

I can't post a pic but my sister had one in her last Victorian house. She had the laundry hampers just inside the bedroom door to get to them easily and then a rack for drying clothes, a small table for sorting/folding and the ironing board was up all the time. They had a hanging rail for putting clothes onto once ironed. It was a really good system.

It sounds like the room will be heated so can it double as airing/linen cupboard?

We do. Open fronted cubbies for each person's washing to be sorted into, and drying racks. Repurposed an old cupboard. Made my life so much better Wink

We have one in our rented place, washing machine and laundry bins live there with a compact drying rack and a small heater as well as coeaning chemicals. Only just bigger than a w/c with toilet and sink and we love it.

We have a main landing and a turning off to a hallway where there are two bedrooms and a bathroom. When we moved in there was a shower room accessible via main landing. We blocked off the door from the main landing and opened up the space form the hallway turn off to put an upstairs washing alcove. There is a washer and a separate dryer and a Sheila hanging from the ceiling, plus a matching shelf on the wall for powers etc. There is space in the alcove for washing baskets. It's open but not visible from the 'nice' main landing.

Given the choice and space permitting, I would always choose an upstairs laundry room/space.

Those racks are a great idea @Floreatfloruit
I've not seen any like that before.

They are from July, Humour. Worth every penny.

We have ikea kalax units with a box for every person in the family. Clean washing goes into the boxes and, in theory, once they are full should be put away (teenage DSs have other ideas).

Why not put the machines in too? Have them where the laundry is - which isn't your kitchen!
