Mussel kitchen - what is this colour?

I have taken a fancy to mussel colour kitchen units but can’t quite work out what the colour is. Cream, beige, grey, green?

I am hoping someone might have one or remember seeing it at the DIY kitchens showroom.

Greige

Knittedfairies · 17/02/2021 11:02

Looking at the pictures I'd say dirty cream.

Greenvalleysightseeker · 17/02/2021 14:04

I really like it too, we are having a new kitchen in the next year and this might be the colour we go for.
I've seen a few homes on Insta etc recently where the doors/ skirting boards are painted in a similar mushroomy colour, and a cottage nearby has painted their porch beams this colour too.

NotMeNoNo · 17/02/2021 14:33

It's a cool greyish cream, my mum had a sample of it but went for Alabaster in the end. It will just look cream/stone coloured in a room on its own. Worth ordering a sample.

Chasingsquirrels · 17/02/2021 14:37

Can you get sample boards from DIY? We picked up a few when we visited, don't know if they'll send them out?
Not the sample doors, just little boards about A5 size.

A very long mumsnet thread about DIY kitchens at the time of choosing revealed that many of their colours are F&B copies. So Mussel is f&b shaded white, Alabaster is f&b James white. And so on. I was very set on Alabaster until I felt it was just too yellowy green for me and went for mussel. I do really love it. When I went to the DIY showroom I was really disappointed when I saw it as it looked quite mushroomy coloured. At that time it was in an area with no natural light (by the cakes Smile) and it looks completely different in natural light. It looks different in different lights. So to answer your question it’s all of those colours you asked about in different lights and at different times of day. I am extremely happy with my kitchen and always meant to send photos to their site but mine is never uncluttered or tidy enough! Order some samples and look at them in different lights and see which you prefer. I’m a very big fan of DIY and recommend them to anyone I had so much fun (and now forgotten stress) designing it to be exactly how I wanted.

Thank you all very much. Sounds like samples are definitely needed.

I have samples (ended up not being able to have a new kitchen in the end!) in cashmere, dove grey, mussel and Stanbury grey. You’re not anywhere near birmingham are you @FrogFairy?

BlueisthenewGrey · 17/02/2021 19:48

I went just before lockdown and stood for 15 minutes before the mussel kitchen. Decided that was what we were having, got the sample home and it didn't look right. Would describe it as mushroom, definitely get a sample.

FrogFairy · 17/02/2021 20:15

@dizzyupthegirl8y sadly not, I am in Wales.

It sounds like this colour is a bit of a chameleon. In my mind I am imagining a sort of putty colour.

dizzyupthegirl86 · 17/02/2021 21:04

To be honest, they all looked very different in different lights to me. And I changed my mind on my favourite when I saw them against different colours! It was like a putty to me, but looked a bit... muddy against white.

SollaSollew · 17/02/2021 22:01

As @scousemouse13 said I think it’s Shaded White. I’ve got a Shaded White kitchen (not DIY) and it looks like that colour. It looks more grey in natural light and more beige in electric light.

GuyFawkesDay · 17/02/2021 22:05

This colour! I'd say it's a neutral tone. Last kitchen we had was cream and it was definitely warmer than this.

Mussel kitchen - what is this colour?
GuyFawkesDay · 17/02/2021 22:07

It's not grey, not cream. I love it, I didn't want grey or the browny cashmere shade.

whataballbag · 17/02/2021 22:12

We have had these in a few houses at work (housing developer)

It's a brown grey. Not nice IMO

whataballbag · 17/02/2021 22:13

Ahh, just read. Ours aren't from the same place! Sorry

FrogFairy · 17/02/2021 23:36

@GuyFawkesDay what a lovely kitchen Smile

Definitely get a sample from DIY kitchens. We ended up with a cashmere kitchen because other colours I thought I'd prefer, including mussel, looked cold and washed out in our NW facing room. Cashmere colour looks warmer, and finished kitchen is fabulous.

Pralinelatte · 18/02/2021 11:09

Different colours look very different in different rooms, different lighting conditions, and so on. You can move sample doors around your space to decide what looks best for you.

scousemouse13 · 18/02/2021 14:00

In addition to that the surfaces and flooring you choose can also make it look very different l. In the kitchen we have it with dark grey quartz and in the utility room same units but with a similar colour laminate from B&Q with subtle sparkly bits in. This also affects how it looks.

lindka · 17/01/2022 10:25

Just read your post re Farrow & Ball colours.
I'm chosing between Muscle, Edwardian White and Snowdrop for new kitchen cupboards. Erring towards Edwardian White.
If Muscle is F & B James White, what are Ewardian White and Snowdrop?
Any info would be very much appreciated. Thank you
