Crittal style/traditional patio doors

Our house is a 1980s detached property in a lovely close where everyone sticks to the traditional look, albeit more modern windows/doors/garage. There's no rendering or grey windows (in the nicest way.
We'll be renovating soon and will end up with a family room at the back that is flush with the current house. It'll have a window either side and an opening in the middle that is about 4 metres.
I've attached a similar looking house to help explain!
We had bifolds in our old house and they were great but I'm just not feeling them here.

Has anyone had white crittal or traditional type French doors?
The kitchen will have a window in the same place as the picture and then a gap similar to the attached crittal style. I love you this look but it just will look weird outside?

I've considered sliders too, again in white/off white .

Thoughts?

Personally with those windows i would either go multipane French doors to match the windows, or plain glass sliders with no dividing bars.

Crittal style would be odd as it’s multipane but a different style of multipane iyswim?

Personally I would always choose sliders as I like to look at the garden rather than the doors.

That's the difficult part. Our windows do need to be done and some houses have gone for plain windows, which does look nice.

We had such huge openings at our last house ( 2 sets of 4m bifolds) it feels a bit scary not having a big opening here.

Our garden is south facing too so I'm not sure how that will work either.

I think you need to be clear on whether you want the doors to be a feature, or to look through to the feature (garden). Once I had realised all I wanted was to see the garden, sliders were the obvious answer. I like crittal style windows and doors, but I much prefer my eye being drawn outside.

Baxdream · 18/02/2021 12:17

That's a great way of looking at it! I think I want the doors to be the feature rather than the view. We don't have the lovely country views to prioritise view over doors!

I would go for the crittal doors then - they look fabulous!

Newbie1999 · 18/02/2021 15:49

Absolutely love them! Would love to buy a house that suited them.

Asgoodasarest · 19/02/2021 19:54

Also think about how long they need to last. I love crittal but I wonder whether they’re going to date, as they’re very of the moment. Fine for the insta crowd that renovate perfectly good rooms every five minutes, but for the real world you need to make sure you’ll still like them for a good few years.

I think white crittal will look like odd French doors- go black or go white wood. I love the crittal look but it's an industrial style, and I don't think that works in white.

Worriedandonedge · 20/02/2021 01:16

A friend of mine has white like this - they look gorgeous! I'm in mid of a Reno and going for the dark and wood kitchen - putting in regular black bifolds for the external doors but planning black Crittal style for the internal doors (lpd doors soho or Chelsea)

Baxdream · 20/02/2021 07:58

This is what I'm wondering about white crittal. The black would look great inside but it's the exterior I'd worry about.
I'm definitely not an insta crowd and will be keeping them long term.
I'm leaning back towards sliders or floor to ceiling wooden French doors.
If I go for sliders then we can do interior crittal into the lounge and hallway

I agree about it being an industrial look. Our close is definitely not industrial, it's more home alone!

How do these open? Like french doors?
Baxdream · 20/02/2021 08:52

Yes like French doors

If you can, measure where the bars will be on the doors. On our French doors a bar is exactly in front of my eyes so I have to go on tip toes or crouch a bit to see out. It endlessly fecks me off.

Baxdream · 21/02/2021 08:55

Oh gosh that is annoying! That makes me want sliding doors 😂
