It's BBQ time, what have you got?

Moved into our new home few months ago with a huge outside space. I planning to buy a Charcoal BBQ but don't know which one to buy?

My budget is up to £600.

What Charcoal or gas BBQ do you have?

I’m considering a Big Green Egg but not sure which size to go for.

We have a gas Weber - which was around £200. For that budget I would consider building an outdoor kitchen for your BBQ

chukwe · 16/02/2021 20:25

@checkedcloth how do I get an outdoor kitchen?

@OMGisthisforreal so expensive. Are they good?

We have a Kamado Joe (a Big Green Egg alternative that comes at a sightly less painful price).

Woodlandbelle · 16/02/2021 20:45

We are looking at the Weber Q2000 as it's on offer locally. It's gas.

Just used disposables the past few years so the convenience is what I am after.

Get an outdoor mains gas one awesome.

JohnMiddleNameRedactedSwanson · 16/02/2021 21:11

We have a gas Weber. For your budget you could have a Weber Q and an Ooni pizza oven.

Nacreous · 16/02/2021 21:16

The outdoor kitchens I have come across have a brick built BBQ that then has a "work surface" - often wood or brick either side, and then a sink with cold running water to it as well. Sometimes a bit of a roof and usually against a wall to provide some shelter. Nothing especially expensive or complicated but would massively improve the outdoor cooking experience.

We also have a gas Weber. I love it. It’s parked right outside the kitchen and we use it all summer.

chukwe · 16/02/2021 21:44

For owners of gas bbq, do you gas cylinders or connection to your house main gas?

We have a weber gas, with canisters.
And also a kamado Joe which is brilliant

We have a charcoal weber, think it was about £300, but we like to smoke things with wood chips, and do low slow cooking, so pulled pork, brisket cooked for 7 hours. Its fab, gas just isn't the same, but it much easier for regular bbqs

Same here. Weber kettle and it can really do anything.

Used it pretty much every day last summer and we use it in winter. Charcoal is expensive though if that is a concern.

Weber Master-Touch 57cm

If you’re gonna use gas you may as well just cook in the kitchen!!!

MaryIsA · 17/02/2021 02:57

We use the bbq a lot in summer, just to cook tea. Small kitchen and cooking outside is nicer. Cook salmon fillets a lot. So we’ve got gas. I

If you can only buy one BBQ ( we have gas for speed occasionally) buy a Kamado it is so versatile but controllable. Steaks are fabulous but it also cooks turkey wonderfully.

The main thing to look for is how to control the temperature and you definitely need a lid that is deep enough.

My DH uses the BBQ at least once a week, year round, and 2-3 times a week in the Summer.

IndecentFeminist · 17/02/2021 15:18

We have a large ProQ (smoker and BBQ). It gets used for general bbqing and long, slower cooks as well. Was about £400 8 years ago?

Dh is quite into his outdoor cooking, we may get something else as well when the outdoor area is done.

I also got a kadai bowl for my 40th recently, am looking forward to cooking over that as well.
