Bringing traditional decor into a new build? Ok or tacky?

Just that really, I want to add character to my new build through little touches. A wooden herringbone floor, Victorian patterned tiles in the bathrooms etc, oak doors and staircase

Is this a nice way to add a bit of soul, or is it clashy/tacky?

I think all the things you mention would look OK as I think they would sit comfortably alongside more contemporary stuff.
I think a single strong traditional design item mixed with modern is OK, just don't go halfway into Victoriana then complete the room with ikea furniture

Herringbone flooring could look great. Patterned tiles can do, though personally I’d be going for “modern Victorian-style patterned” rather than (the way pricier!) full on encaustic tiles in traditional Victorian colours.

Yes I would say they are more modern take on Victorian tiles Smile

I agree I mix of older/traditional style with more contemporary in a modern house is fine and can look lovely. Lots of people have wooden herringbone floors and oak doors and staircases in any sort of home.

I'd only caution with using obviously Victorian style tiles if you're planning to go the full hog with Victorian style bathroom fittings too - in a very obvious "modernist" style home it would clash (in a faux - traditional looking new build it'd be okay imo).
