Doubling ground rent clause

Just a rant really. Been here 6 years. Had an offer, covid hit and it all fell through. Been stuck working in same lounge as husband with a toddler quickly outgrowing our 1.5 bed flat. Looked at the legal documents the other day and realised we have a doubling lease clause. Legal implications were not pointed out at the time and we are out of time to claim for negligent advice. Anyway, have started down the route of looking at cost of extending lease to get rid of clause and it looks extortionate. Am aware that reform is coming but who knows when and in the meantime need to try and save up 20% of what's remaining on the mortgage. I think we will be here forever. I know it's not end of the world but I just can't shake being really bloody down about it all today.

What does the ground rent start at and end at, if the lease were to run to it's end?

OP you may not be out of time for bringing a claim - there are lots of law firms dealing with negligence claims and its definitely worth a phone call before you write off a potential claim. They should be able to give you some advice about other options too (e.g. lease extension / speaking to the freeholder directly as some are offering to vary the ground rent clause - albeit not get rid of it completely - for a few hundred pounds). Some options might not be right for you so get some advice.

Hi, join National Leasehold Campaign (NLC) on Facebook for support and advice. You don't have to post as there will be plenty of similar posts to your circumstances

Potentially you do still have time to make a claim, so you need to get legal advice.
