This used to be Herrison Hospital some history here - I think it might freak me out a bit. It still looks very institutional.

I wouldn't, not because of the history of the place, but because I understand the service charges in these hospital conversions are astronomical.

Fuhfeuucdr · 14/02/2021 10:58

No, we rented for a couple of months in a converted fever hospital. It had an unbearably sad feeling about it and I hated being there.

passtheorange · 14/02/2021 11:00

There's a converted one near here. Gives me the creeps just looking at it.

AuntieDolly · 14/02/2021 11:03

“ Entrance via security door” 😱
Wonder if it’s original 😉

AubergineDream · 14/02/2021 11:09

I wouldn't. I don't believe places are haunted but do believe they hold their sadness/atmosphere

MsLumley · 14/02/2021 11:10

Hell yes, it’s gorgeous! All those lovely high ceilings and beautiful architecture. I’d far rather that than see it knocked down and replaced with a bland boxy new build.

FoolsAssassin · 14/02/2021 11:12

No, I think it would make me feel sad knowing the history,

Persipan · 14/02/2021 11:14

I wouldn't buy that flat because it's boring. But in principle I'd have no objection to a converted asylum.

user85963842 · 14/02/2021 11:17

If it it was anything like the asylums near me no not a chance, not just because of the inevitable ghosts (slightly joking Grin) I really don't think I could live somewhere with such a horrific past, I couldn't let go of the atrocities that happened in the building and would find it a daily reminder of how shit people can be. Perhaps that's OTT and I know you could apply it to lots of older buildings/areas but having spent hours of my life researching asylum records, there is something more sinister about these buildings.

Shiftctrlcmd · 14/02/2021 11:39

OMG, no way! I visited a friend who had bought an apartment in one of these. The development wasn't quite finished yet and they took me for a tour round the not yet converted parts of the large estate. The most disturbing part were the left over bath tubs. Envy Orrible.

TartanLassie · 14/02/2021 11:43

The portoloo would put me off!!

Me too.

BlackCatShadow · 14/02/2021 11:50

I agree that I think the flat is a bit meh. The outside is pretty, but it's nothing special inside. I knew someone who bought a flat in a converted hospital. It was very beautiful inside with high ceilings and a really interesting look but a real pain to clean and heat.

SuperbGorgonzola · 14/02/2021 11:50

Yes, I would.

3JsMa · 14/02/2021 12:02

The history of the building would not bother me at all.The grounds around it looks really nice.
However,I am not sure about the layout. The living room and main bedroom look enormous compared to the the rest of the flat.
I would definitely knock the wall between the kitchen and living area.

Mixitupalot · 14/02/2021 12:19

I would but not in that one. It’s very ugly & I don’t think there’s much you could do about it. Although the size and outside is beautiful for me there’s something a miss

shinynewapple21 · 14/02/2021 12:26

I don't think I would, no.

KirstenBlest · 14/02/2021 12:36

Why do they not put the toilet seat lid down before taking photos?

AtLastEarwax · 14/02/2021 14:14

DH and I used to be in the urban exploring game. I would actually probably get some information on which room in there was the padded cell.

The flat with that in would sell for a huge amount to the right urban explorer

A padded cell is like the Crown Jewels
