Dh is wanting to go with B&Q for our new kitchen ?
Anyone had any experience of buying a new kitchen with them ?

Twice unfortunately. Once for ours and BiL had dealt with them.
Ours was a bit of a nightmare as it took ages for missing bits to come through. We had a good discount which was the only reason we purchased it to be honest. The quality was Ok, solid enough etc but nothing special. They wanted a lot of money for fitting and things like electrics were on top of the quoted price.
BiL was messed around so much with ordering and dates being changed that he cancelled in the end. Bought from Ikea instead and got a better kitchen, better fittings like soft close hinges, and the cheaper price included all the electrics.

A friend has a b&q kitchen, it’s not very old but things keep going wrong

Wetcappuccino · 11/02/2021 11:52

We have a B&Q kitchen which was fitted by my DF and DH (not trades) last year. We used the kitchen planner tool and had an online planning appointment. We found the service and quality good. There were a couple of items missed/ late (always check the receipt!) but nothing major. No more issues than I would expect with any supplier. We had a discount which made it much more reasonable than elsewhere. Howdens quote included fitting but was about 4x the price. Ikea also more expensive.

We've ordered one for our utility room. It's yet to arrive but so far so good. The design appointment was good and the price was in budget.

I'm not sure I would have got our kitchen from them though, we were happy to go budget on the utility

From experience, kitchen itself was OK. Fitters (theirs) were beyond dreadful and parts of the work had to be re done. I'd consider a kitchen from them in future but would run a mile from their fitters.

I actually am friends with an ex B and Q kitchen fitter...he was their trouble shooter and sorted out the bodged work...he is now self employed and contracted by B and Q...he works 7 days a week and is booked up for years....!!...that should tell you all you need to know about the quality of the installation..!!

RevolutionRadio · 11/02/2021 14:26

The b n q kitchen we had was much better than the Howdens one we have now.

Used our own fitters for both kitchens.

Shelby30 · 11/02/2021 14:40

In laws bought a new kitchen and had their own joiner to fit. There was numerous items missing or wrong and they were never off the phone to them for ages. I certainly don't think they wld ever get another one with them. The wine cooler never worked and they given either a refund or vouchers to the value of it. To be fair though the kitchen was fitted 12 yrs ago and still looks pretty new and has worn well they've not had any issues with the quality.

Twizbe · 11/02/2021 15:18

I think fitting is the key for any kitchen. Take the time and money to find a very good fitter and don't use the ones supplied by the kitchen retailer

My mum and dad had one installed last year, units are great really good quality but the cooker has broken twice and the kitchen sink is so flimsy. I’d say get the kitchen but buy appliances yourself.

We have a B&Q bathroom it’s great apart from the faucets and the showers looking a bit worse for wear just 18months on.

LongIslandIcedT · 12/02/2021 08:53

Ours is very good, but we bought the most expensive one being solid wood doors.
We used our own fitter though.

Soontobe60 · 12/02/2021 09:07

We had one fitted 4 years ago - we bought the cheaper range where the units come flat packed and our builders fitted it. One corner of our kitchen is an awkward shape due to a diagonal chimney breast and needed a lot of fiddling to get it right. I think its really well fitted and the quality is good. It still looks like new. We used their design service. We had no issues with delivery and were able to return all unused parts like plinths and a couple of end panels that had been over ordered.

We didnt buy appliances from them. We paid around £4K. At the same time my DD bought a very high end kitchen for about £20K which included fitting. They’ve had no end of trouble with it!

scammedmum29 · 12/02/2021 16:49

I’ve got one, was fitted in June and is one of the new range. They don’t have fitters any more, so you have to DIY or use your own. It’s a nice kitchen, we look after it well and it would last a good few years. We paid £4.5k including built in appliances- our fitter had discount. We’re happy enough with it. Our 5 year plan is for a kitchen extension so we didn’t want to spend a fortune on this kitchen but if we don’t extend we’d be happy enough to keep the B&Q kitchen

Bluesheep8 · 15/02/2021 07:19

Glad to hear they don't use their "own" fitters any longer. Our kitchen was minuscule and took nearly 5 weeks to fit as they'd turn up for an hour or two and then rush off to another job not to be seen again for days at a time.
The floor then took another 4 weeks on top of that as it had to be re laid 3 times. It still wasn't right so they sent someone out to assess it. He said it was one of the worst botch jobs he'd seen.

MoiJeJous · 15/02/2021 10:38

We have a kitchen from B&Q which was fitted by our own joiner. We also bought our own appliances as theirs were quite expensive. We had a fantastic joiner who fixed any niggles with missing parts etc. without complaining too much, so i’m not too sure if there were too many problems. I would buy another kitchen from them.

mogtheexcellent · 15/02/2021 11:44

Ours is 10 years old and still fine. We used our own fitter though. No problems with missing bits.

MeadowHay · 15/02/2021 11:54

We've got one, but had our own fitter. Fitted in summer 2018, no problems so far...Grin
