Electrical Installation Condition report what actually happens?

My landlord has booked one of these to be carried out in the house I live in.
Apparently it will take three hours!
What do they actually need to physically do and will the power go off during this time?

Anyone know? I’ve googled but not found much on what they electrician will need access to and what takes three hours. My landlord doesn’t seem to know either Confused

They test every socket in the house, every light switch, the fuse board, wired smoke alarms etc. We had our 5 bedroom house done and it took about 6 hours in total.

Oh god that sounds like a nightmare. I’ve got sockets behind white goods in the kitchen which can’t easily be moved and also one behind a kids cabin bed which again can’t be moved. Not quite sure how they’ll get to those...

We had sockets behind a huge triple wardrobe and we had to move them. It was a complete pain to be honest! I would just say you aren’t prepared to move them as your weren’t warned in advance so if they want to do it they’ll have to move it themselves!

I don't think our electrician checked behind the fridge... It took about an hour (electrician and two trainees), he found two problems with the fuse board and I had to root out the instructions for the shower to check what fuse it needed. Other than that pretty straightforward - I just hid in the living room and ignored the lights going on and off.

If a socket is inaccessible the electrician will just note it on the report, no big deal. so long as they can access enough to form an opinion it should be ok.
Likewise with downlights; pulling every single one out of the ceiling to check it is completely unnecessary.
