Farrow and Ball paint, is it worth it?

Considering using their dayroom yellow and wimborne white for bedroom. Never used F&B before, don't mind paying more if it's actually really good quality etc.

No, look at Little Greene or Benjamin Moore. Similar price to FB but much better.

happytoday73 · 06/02/2021 20:38

Get valspar to colour match it

Mumblechum0 · 06/02/2021 20:39

I think so, my whole house is F and B. I’ve just bought 4 tins of Farrow’s cream today to freshen up the sitting room during the coming snow 😊

The colours change slightly depending on time of day etc.

It is £50 a tin tho so I definitely recommend that you get a few testers, paint some sheets of A4 and blue tax them up to see what you think before splurging.

Mumblechum0 · 06/02/2021 20:40

I personally don’t think colour matching gives the same depth of pigment, others may disagree 😁

DappledOliveGroves · 06/02/2021 20:40

The colours are nice but the finish can be tricky and I don't find F&B that durable. We used Little Greene for the kitchen very recently and found it far superior.

JetBlackSteed · 06/02/2021 20:42

Nope. It wears really quickly and is not worth the money. Get a paint the professionals use Johnstone's/ Valspar and colour match.

AnnaMagnani · 06/02/2021 20:45

Yes. Colour matching isn't the same, you won't get the same changeability in the light or intensity of pigment.

I've had 2 houses in F&B and not found it wearing a problem, and I've even had the floorpaint.

SerialRelocator · 06/02/2021 20:49

I found F&B application horrible. Last 2 houses have stuck with Little Greene and love it.

FurierTransform · 06/02/2021 20:52

I think it's overpriced designer paint & the quality does not match up to the price at all. Quite simply, you can get better for less.

Used F&B for one room, don't really like it. Didn't paint on well. Used Mylands for rest of the place, and really recommend. Thick paint, matt, barely needed a second coat

79andnotout · 06/02/2021 20:59

I think little greene is much better, really thick paint that goes on easily.

Bluntness100 · 06/02/2021 21:01

Honestly? No I got my last lot colour matched in the valspar 800 matt and I can’t tell the difference between that and the actual farrow ans ball.

Completely agree! We colour matched once, and never again!
Ck91 · 06/02/2021 21:07

No, save your money.
I’ve used it in two rooms. One room it’s marked so badly and when you wipe it it makes it worse. And in another room the paint just comes off if anything touches the wall.
I will say the colours are beautiful and the finish looks lovely when you first do it, but it’s just not practical in everyday living environments. I would just have them colours matched in the future.

Persipan · 06/02/2021 21:17

The floor paint I found great. Painting the walls with F&B was hell, though. I wouldn't do it again.

gavisconismyfriend · 06/02/2021 21:19

Look at Vintage - it is beautiful paint, UK made and eco-friendly

Tiddlywinkly · 06/02/2021 21:22

We had some rooms painted professionally pre-covid. He recommended colour matching F&B and getting a silk finish. He said the quality of F&B is crap.

Chumleymouse · 06/02/2021 21:34

Snobs like farrow and ball because they think it sounds posh and it costs 3 times more than normal paint. Dulux is more hard wearing and covers a lot better.

ManxRhyme · 06/02/2021 22:01

Get a sample then get it colour matched by Johnstones for a far superior formulation if you like F&B colours.

IstandwithJackieWeaver · 06/02/2021 22:28

I've got Johnstone's colour matched Borrowed Light in the room that's been my home office for almost a year. Went on like a dream and the colour is excellent.

Empressofthemundane · 06/02/2021 22:31

Nope.

You can now by Benjamin Moore in the UK. Their Scuffix formulation is great if you have kids. Lots of good colours. Name checked frequently on Pinterest if you want to browse popular colours people have used in their houses.

Ginfordinner · 06/02/2021 22:35

@happytoday73

Get valspar to colour match it
Or a Crown Decorating Centre. They will colour match any brand of paint.
weasle · 06/02/2021 22:48

OP I've got done F&B in our hall and it's dreadfully marked. I'm looking at Little Greene paints - what finish do PP recommend for that please?

newlabelwriter · 06/02/2021 22:54

We’ve just discovered Lick paint and it’s brilliant. Coverage great and love the colours

Jarstastic · 06/02/2021 23:37

I’ve always found Farrow and Ball good. Colour matched once and it was nothing like it.
